How do you change your daily speech to entertain yourself, or be different?

Asked by mowens (8403points) January 14th, 2010

I like adding funny words that no one uses anymore, such as tardy or harlot. What about you? I like to make it funny to converse with me. I try to be very original with my diction.

that’s funny. When I’m alone, or sometimes when it’s just me and my s/o, I will just use a different accent (Australian, french, etc). What can I say? It amuses me haha

I spent an entire day using a russian accent once. Had my co-workers in tears laughing.

I will do a french accent when I speak to my dog when I’m alone of course. Also, I have a friend that whenever she gets drunk she develops an Australian accent. It is completely bizarre and hilarious.

I can do a pretty decent Elmer Fudd imitation, even en francaise.

I like using Reader’s Digest’s “Enriching Your Word Power” to implement new words into my vocabulary.

But I try to pick one I’ve heard somewhere before, otherwise you get a lot of people either asking you what it means or (if they’re too shy to ask) missing the meaning of what I’m trying to say.

Then I say the word to myself several time throughout the day and look for opportunities to use in everyday conversation.

I throw in unusual words for amusement purposes and to see if people pick up on them. Words that you don’t hear very often, either because they’re big or because they’re antiquated. Also, I enjoy using British phrases and terminology, as well as sayings that are gender-incorrect or ethnically-incorrect. I find the incongruencies to be amusing.
