Are skullcandy earbuds worth buying?

Asked by disturbed_broken (756points) January 17th, 2010 from iPhone

What are the pros and cons?
I was going to get the 40$ skullcandy earbuds but before I spent forty bucks on earbuds
I wanted to know some reviews on them from people who have tried them or own them.
Are they worth buying?

I have Skullcandy Titans. I like them. Good sound for the price.

Wesc makes earbuds that are priced around $40. I would go with them however SkullCandy is improving their product. I bought a pair just before a 6 hour flight about a year ago, they were nice. Not that comfortable and not noise cancelling however they sounded good.

Work great, good sound quality, and worth the money you pay for them.

On and over ear headphones by skullcandy are good. The in ear buds are ok

I used them for a little bit but now I don’t. They hurt my ears after awhile. They did block out a lot of outside noise, but I wasn’t a fan of that because I would use them to walk to class and didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t hear cars coming or if people said hi. So overall not bad, just not for me.

I keep buying the cheap ones, $15 in-ear buds, and they keep breaking. I have about 4 pears of broken buds that all broke within a couple months of purchase, some in just a week or two. I like the sound that they give off though and that is why I keep coming back to them. I guess you pay for quality though and at $40, I’m sure those headphones will be a bit more reliable though. Just be weary.

Anyway, in the event that they do break, and as long as you didn’t cause the break, SkullCandy provides good customer support and will replace them free of charge and even let you choose a different color if you’d like.

Embarrassed to say, but while I’m certainly a music fan, I’m not an audiophile and so have never understood why one would pay a whole lot of money for earbuds. Except for the basic Apple earbuds, which I think are atrocious, they all sound and fit the same for me. But that’s just me.

Skullcandys are great and I’ve had a few over the years. I’d spring on the extra twenty or so dollars and get the full headphones for a surprising increase in sound quality.

From this question

…the earbuds produce Bose quality sound at a more affordable price. Personally I own a pair of FMJ’s which produce a range from 16–20,000Hz, which probably includes more frequencies than I can hear, but makes me feel good inside and provides full-bodied sound. The cushions around the earbud speakers (you’re given three sizes with the better sets) make an excellent seal, providing the same experience as low-level noise canceling headphones/earphones.

Don’t get the Skullcandy “Smokin’ Buds”. I went through 2 pairs of those in about 3 weeks, with them always breaking at the same place.

I’m not sure which Skullcandy’s you’re looking at, but stay away from the “Smokin’ Buds”.

$40 for earbuds? I have the some skullcandy headphones that fit over the ear, and they’ve lasted me a long time and never broken. They’re way more comfortable than earbuds and they were only about $15.

I love and miss my Skullcandy earbuds. I’ve owned a half dozen over the years, and they’re almost the only brand I trust. Get them.

I bought some for my son Christmas 2008. They were broken by March.

My friend bought a pair. The third time he put them on they broke. Although he did say the sound was excellent while it lasted

ETA: The nice pairs come with a little protective zipped case. I’ve had mine for several years and they’re still in pristine condition.

Yes, they are very good!! Nice, clear sound and very good base for earbuds. They get very good ratings and come highly recommended by a lot of people who work at retail stores like best buy.
