How far in advance do you start making plans for upcoming holidays?

Asked by La_chica_gomela (12574points) January 18th, 2010

Has anyone else started planning their Valentine’s Day yet? It’s my turn to plan Valentines with my sweetie, and I’m really excited about it! I think I’ve already got the whole thing figured out! But I can’t share it with you because he’s on fluther, too! ^_^

Have you started planning? What will you treat your honey to this year? What elaborate holiday plans have you made in the past? How did they turn out?

I try to avoid elaborate holiday plans. My best plans are when we go away for the holidays. Then they usually work out perfectly.

Depends on how I’m feeling. 2009 I planned a month in advance for x-mas and new years. 2008, I planned a day before. V-Day? I ignore it (and yes I am in a relationship).

About 8 hours if it’s a real holiday. For Valentines day? Not at all.

Elaborate holiday plans? Wha?

I bet you both will have a wonderful night!

It depends on the holiday for me. For Christmas, I host and make crafts so I’m constantly working on that throughout the year. Refining menus and decorating themes until I find one that makes me excited.

For birthdays, about a month. I like Valentine’s Day but I tend to put more thought into our Anniversary plans. About two weeks for Valentine’s Day and probably three months for a birthday. Anniversary plans I think about all year. I try to make each one special.

I don’t make elaborate plans for any holidays.
When we can, we go away to explore and enjoy being together.

Well, I don’t consider Valentine’s a holiday you really have to plan for…Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving..yes, I plan them.

Right now, I’m just hoping not to go into labor on Valentine’s Day. I’ll lay with my feet up all day if I have to. lol

A month or so and only because my mother’s b-day is the same week. It’s been years since I’ve felt excited about V-day, it’s kind of neat to have a partner I feel like celebrating with.

@Cruiser-what are you planning on?

Cruiser's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I can’t share the surprise publicly here….but I have begun to work feverishly on expanding my bucket list of things to do!! I didn’t think I’d live this long and expect to have the time of my life knocking a few off my list. It will be pretty long this time not gonna make the same mistake I did with the last list! I hope to have the revised list completed mid March!

@lucillelucillelucille Let’s just say I have no choice but to wait for my surprise….I only hope I live to see my next birthday…it would be such a shame to miss out on that goal…it should be beyond memorable!

I work on holiday gifts all year long, depending on what mood I’m in. At the appropriate time, I donate them to the charity fair and thrift shops.

As a family, we have to think about who will be travelling where and when, in order to take advantage of the best prices. For flying, we need to reserve 21 days in advance. We look through our various options to find out which of the free motel rooms we have earned would best fit which holiday and which traveler.

There is only one event that I go to trouble to really plan, and that’s the Summer Birthdays party I throw every year. It’s a yearly family event.
