Has there ever been a pregnancy in a soap opera where the paternity of the child was not in doubt?

Asked by Dog (25152points) January 20th, 2010

While visiting my sister this week I was exposed to several episodes of daily soap operas. This was my first experience with this type of entertainment and likely my last.

That being said, as she explained the complex plots I finally asked her if there was ever a pregnancy in the history of soap operas where the paternity was never in question and she could not think of any.

Is this the case? If it is why is that so and what would happen if a soap opera was made that could not rely on this plot twist?

@Dog exposed. That’s a good word for it. I’m subjected to them, or have them inflicted on me at lunch time at work. It makes my sphincter twitch.
If they didn’t have that particular twist to fall back on, they’d lose drama time and several possible story twists. “It’s Brad’s baby.” “But he’s : dead, gay, MIA, married to Lisa, a hermaphrodite…” “After all these years honey, your real father is here. He’s been in prison for murder.”....
I could think up some more for you, but I have to go to bed soon and need to talk myself off the ceiling.~ ;-)

Yes, with Ashley and Victor on Young and the Restless.

I have no idea. I would never watch such a show.

If the paternity was sure I think the child would have to have to be born with a tragic condition. I just can’t sort out if it would have to be heartbreaking or horrifying.

Noah- Nick and Sharon on Young and the Restless. Although I could be wrong, however that’s when their marriage was healthy and strong.

I think I have to reasonable responses because that’s the only time I can think where the marriage between those two was actually functionable. Now both of the couples are split and with other people. Oh the wonders of a soap opera!

I just love soaps. I watch them all. My boyfriend usually exercises while they are on, but when he does watch I’m sure he like them, he says not but he does. Anyway, to answer the question, no.

I think Nikki and Victor on The Young and the Restless when both Victoria and Nicholas were born. I could be wrong, though. That was a long time ago.

Haha, this question made me laugh.

It’s a great question and I have come to the conclusion that if the marriage or relationship between two people was strong and faithful then the paternity of the child is known. However this rarely happens because of the drama-filled soap opera. No couple will stay happy. But I think the examples above are true, so to answer your question yes there has been.
