"Question for You" don't match my "Fields of expertise"?

Asked by Violet (6589points) January 23rd, 2010

There are sex questions being asked every day, and none of them are suggested to me. The questions suggested to me, have nothing to do with my “Fields of expertise”. All of my “Fields of expertise” involve sex, and the questions suggested to me involve everything but sex.
What can I do?
Does anyone else have this problem?

This assumes people tag shit correctly. They barely ever do.

YARNLADY's avatar

@johnpowell did you mean tag “sex” correctly? I don’t think Violet is interested in shit.

jrpowell's avatar

@YARNLADY :: You know what I meant. At least I tried to help. You didn’t.

@johnpowell that was very rude. Yarnlady is a good friend of mine, and I don’t like her being talked to that way.
Also, I am still not getting the sex questions that are tagged correctly,

Try spending a couple minutes looking for all of the sex topics and see what people commonly tag it as, set those as your fields of expertise. Also, answer any and all sex questions that you find, it might take a bit of work but eventually you’ll be flooded with questions.

I had to do this for a bit and now all I get is Science and exercise questions.

Violet's avatar

@VanCityKid ohhhh..I will try to do that. Thank you : )

PM Andrew, @Violet. Maybe it’s a bug.

jrpowell's avatar

It was not rude. Her answer was crap and I said so. I don’t care if she is your friend. I have flagged Allie’s shit too.

Stop being rude

[mod says] Flame off, please.

Also, answering all the sex questions you can find (as @VanCityKid suggests) is definitely the best way to get them in the future. Fluther learns what you like over time, through both your profile and your activity. If you’re getting a lot of “questions for you” that you have no desire to see or answer, be sure to click on “not interested” rather than “remove”.

Still unsure how I was rude. Care to explain?

@augustlan is so sexy when she’s pissed.

Violet dictates conversation now.

[mod says] Please, let’s get back to the actual topic. All off-topic remarks will be removed.

@VanCityKid How does one find all the sex questions….or questions on any other particular subject?

augustlan's avatar

@plethora Type the topic you’re interested in in the search box up there ^^.

Most of the ones I get are related to things I noted as my expertise. Although I get a lot of clothing and fashion questions and I’m probably the least fashionable person alive.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

I get a lot of questions that have nothing to do with my fields also. I’ve been directing a lot of the sex related questions towards @Violet when I realize that she hasn’t responded to them. System glitch?

ccrow's avatar

I usually don’t even look at “my” questions as they’re often nothing I’m interested in. I also get a lot of technical-type computer questions. I do mark those as ‘not interested’ but I still get them. I also frequently see questions that would seem to be in my areas of interest that don’t make it to ‘my questions’.

@johnpowell I think that @YARNLADY s sense of humor went unappreciated. It happens to me also. IMHO, you overreacted and owe her an apology.

As @augustlan mentions answering the questions you are interested in will help Fluther learn what you are an expert in but topic (tags) are the key.

It seems like quite a few users do not understand how to best get their questions seen by experts.

When writing a question adding correct TOPICS are vital to getting your question the best possible responses. Topic keywords will bring your question to the attention of those best qualified to give you a great response.

Topics are the last thing you add to a question and must be keywords separated by a comma. They need to be related to your subject matter and as descriptive as possible.

As an example if I wanted to know why a simple distraction could immediately shut down sexual intimacy then I would not just put a tag of “sex.”
I would get much better results by adding “sex, intimacy, psychology, intercourse”

If I wanted to know why my car steering wheel was shaking when I drove over 70mph I would not just put the keyword “car”
I would expand and use “car, steering, mechanic, auto, auto repair, tires”

Resist the temptation to add topics that do not belong. Topic keyword spamming or off-topic keywords makes the system less effective and can get your question sent back to you to edit.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

@Dog has it right. People are not using correct keywords to get their questions matched up with those best able to answer them.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land I respond to as many of the questions you send me as I can : )
