I’m actually looking for a good digital piano myself. I’m learning to play because it’s required for my major in school. One of the things that I think is important if you’re learning piano is to make sure the digital version has weighted keys so that you feel as if you were playing an actual piano. You should try to get something as close as possible to a real piano. I’m thinking about getting a Roland E-09 or something similar to that.

In addition to Kheredia’s comment about weighted keys, find as many excuses to practice on a real piano as possible. You can feel the vibration and subtle differences in volume with differently weighted keystrokes on a piano. It’s a sensation and a teaching tool a keyboard just cannot duplicate. Personally, beyond the suggestion for weighted keys, it really doesn’t matter at the moment. If you’re just starting, go with something cheap as you will have to work on your muscle memory in your hands for some time anyway.
Best of luck,

This keyboard will help you memorize which hand types which letter, and the ergonomic design teaches you good hand posture to reduce the risk of repetitive stress injury.

@mcbealer Damn I was so interested in finding out what an ergonomic designed keyboard looked like. Shame it was the wrong kind.

It will depend on your budget…if you are in it for the long haul make an investment in a good piano. We have a Roland digital piano that I love to play and so do the kids.

I endorse the “weighted keys” comments. Beyond that, something that has a decent digital piano sound is important to me.

Check out Craig’s list. A friend just got a gorgeous Steinway upright (with real ivory keys) for free. She had to pay for moving it but still, it will be a permanent investment for her.

If you can draft three strong friends with good backs, you can transport and move it yourself.

oh no, I really need to stay away from fluther when my eyes and brain are competing for which is more tired!
Please excuse my major fail up there ^
