Have you been fooled by Photoshop and how does it bother you?

I don’t like being fooled. On the other hand it’s artistic and creative sometimes. Can you draw parallel between Photo shop like creations and the new techniques in “Avatar” ?

I probably have. No it doesn’t bother me.

It’s annoying when online personalities use photoshop to make themselves look more attractive, but so satisfying when an un-shopped photo is discovered lol

It bothers me that advertising uses Photoshop to sell their products, such as on models. They will even use different body parts on one person to create the “perfect” man or woman. Needless to say, this is having a negative effect on many people young and old who think they need to live up to looking a certain way or being a certain weight. Other than things like that, I completely love Photoshop as it allows you to make fantasy reality!

One of my favorite youtube videos was the You Suck At Photoshop series. Hysterical video, with jawdropping photoshop skills.
If you are gonna complain about commercials and advertisements being photoshopped, you might as well complain about make-up and plastic surgery. It’s all about making something look better than it is.

I do complain about plastic surgery. Make up is a different story I think, it’s not necessarily CHANGING what you have, just enhancing or hiding it. Definitely much different than seeing that your head was photoshopped onto someone else’s body. Plus make up is fun and creative when used in the right way.

We are fooled by Photoshop every day that we look at an advertisement with people in it. There are almost no models in print advertising who haven’t been Photoshopped in some way. Same thing with photos of celebrities or centerfolds. Does it bother me? Yes, because it sets unrealistic expectations for some people. And I think it may be one way that people who already feel bad about themselves end up feeling worse.

And like @Kokoro, I love some of the fun things that can be done with Photoshop.

On edit: I can’t get to YouTube at work, but there is a great video showing a model being made-up and the Photoshop work that comes after.

I’m good with Photoshop, and love it, but that means it is usually clear to me when and how things have been ‘shopped. It is very obvious with models, but this just means I never ever ever think of the “people” in ads as “real”.

All the amateur Photoshoppers modding themselves to look perfect on the social websites makes me laugh too, especially if I know them in life to be short, stocky and with skin ruined by how much make-up they wear.

It bothers me when amateurs use Photoshop to sell themselves as professionals.

Especially when it comes to photography.
