Meta Question

Wouldn't a poll tab solve the frequent moderation that poll questions face?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) January 28th, 2010

If polls were kept separate from everything else and given their own tab, the main page would remain uncluttered, but people would also be able to pose their poll questions. Plus, people who don’t like poll questions could skip them completely, and they would not even know that they are there at all.

I was thinking that people could select that the question is a poll, and it would bypass the main screen completely. That way it wouldn’t have to be sent over by a moderator.

Sent over from where?

@faye sent from the main page to the poll tab.

This idea is pretty good. So, you succeeded at convincing someone with absolutely no power.
good luck with people who matter.

Maybe we could do a poll about this issue?

I don’t think Fluther would work well with polls. That’s AnswerBag stuff.

@filmfann I’m hoping that the higher-ups will consider it.

@janbb I tried not to make this a poll on polls. Meta is confusing enough as it is.

So are polls about polls. Polls on Fluther confuse me as well.

buckyboy28's avatar

@Fred931 but the point is that if you don’t like polls, you don’t have to click on that tab.

Right, but I think it would be a problem for Tim and Bendrew to concoct another system to integrate into Fluther, if not do a complete overhaul of the recently-redesigned question-asking process. Also, I still believe that Fluther would just not work with polls in the long-term.

Why do we need poll questions? Are these questions for the intellectually challenged or something? Those who can’t say anything beyond “yes” or “no?”

What’s the problem with turning a poll question into a question people can actually think about?

I think he means “polls” like “Who is your favorite band?” or “What is your favorite meal?” etc. I don’t like those questions, personally. They do seem to be popular, because everyone has a favorite something…

I think it could be doable, but have no clue if that’s something the site’s founders have any interest in. Perhaps they’ll let us know. :)

I think there comes a point where we love Fluther and Jellies to the point of wanting this site to fill all of our needs. I think about this myself. Then I remind myself that there are sites for talking, chit chat and polls. This site is special because it is for questions that aren’t easily answered by a quick google search.

I like this idea too. Like you said, for those who aren’t interested in poll like questions, they can be kept out of the way so only those that are interested in them have to see them.
