Are there any email systems that charge per email?

Asked by TheBox193 (997points) January 30th, 2010

Just a random thought that passed my mind while talking with my roommates. So what better place to ask but fluther?

Wouldn’t be funny if there was a system that cost something like a $1.00 per email? Is there one?

Probably not, or if there is, they probably will go out of business very soon.

Centmail is a proposal to charge a penny to send an email, making to too expensive for spammers, who send millions of messages.

This idea has been tossed around for well over ten years. It never stuck. I personally wouldn’t mind it if It cut down on spam. I send around 100 e-mails per month so it would be a buck if each one was a penny.
