What's a good way to find a rental in Tahoe for a weekend?

Also, we've never been there, so suggestions on good areas would be great as well.

I don't know good rental companies, but if you're trying to decide what area to go to, South Lake Tahoe is more built up, has bars, restaurants, etc. The North shore is more quaint.

Go to Craigslist "Housing" and then "Vacation Rentals" and then type key words.

zephyr point is a retreat center for some branch of christian folks...but, you don't have to document your faith or what have you...so i have been there a few times. easily the cheapest place i have seen in south lake tahoe and there are cabin-like structures twenty feet from the lake. good luck...and, they have kitchens and stores suppaduppa close.
