I use DVD shrink and copy it to a 500G hard drive, then I use hand brake to convertit to the iPod/iPhone format.it takes up a lot of space so make sure u save everything on an external hard drive

My method is a bit different:

• Insert DVD and open handbrake.
• Hit the Command Key + T to show the presets drawer. (command key is the one with the apple on it)
• Choose the iPhone/iPod touch preset.
• Go to File < Open Source, and choose the DVD disc. No need to navigate into the VIDEO_TS or AUDIO_TS folders.
• It will start scanning the chapters.
• Press the start button and wait a long time.

To shorten the time, you can open the disc in your file explorer (Finder) and drag the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders to your desktop. Make a new folder on the desktop, and drag the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders into the new folder. Then when choosing your source, choose that folder that you just made on your desktop.

I would suggest a combo of mac the ripper and handbrake. Mac the ripper takes the encryption from most DVDs. Once you rip the DVD to your machine open handbrake and browse to the folder of the DVD and start the conversion.
