Can I play basketball at another university once I have graduated from a 4 year university already?

Asked by mass_pike4 (2096points) February 16th, 2010

Okay, so, I kind of change my mind all of the time. I love basketball and regret not playing at my university four years ago. I am a senior now and will graduate in December. I want to know if I can join a basketball team at another university after I have already graduated and have obtained my bachelor’s degree.

I think you have five years of eligibility, so you may be able to.

Once you start your higher education career, you have 5 calendar years to complete 4 years of competition. Your clock starts the minute you step foot on a college campus. If you are going directly from your 4 year university to your next school, you will have just 1 year to play NCAA basketball (that includes D1, D2 and D3). If you have taken more than a year off between schools, you will be out of luck, but you can always play intramural sports.

Here are the NCAA eligibility regulations

@mass_pike4 No problem. I was a college athlete and am now a college coach. If you have any other questions, your school’s Athletic Compliance office will be able to give you specific answers.
