What body temperature is too low?

Asked by snowyowl_ecs (417points) February 18th, 2010

For the past serveral weeks my body temperature has been really low. It’s mostly around 95 but it’s been lower. I know that serveral degrees high can be bad, but what about several degrees low?

Many people, including my sibs and me, run low always, particularly in the morning. We consider 96º to 97º normal. If we hit 99º, we feel really feverish. But temp. will rise slightly during the day.

If you have no symptoms to go with the low temp., you should be fine. Why are you taking your temperature regularly?

If you are really concerned, see your primary-care physician. (Google “Low body temperatures”. There are several interesting articles.)

95F is considered the upper end of hypothermia. If you are not shiverring, or experiencing rapid heartbeat or breathing, you are probably all right. Is that core body temperature or an oral thermometer? Do your extremities feel cold? I’m not an expert, but I’ve seen several instances of cold-related injuries in Alaska, Antarctica and northern New England.
