What would LOVES (10?) Commandments be?

I’m not satisfied with the ten commandments that Moses received. In fact, I don’t really like the old ones anymore. Could there be a better list that would serve us more effectively? Maybe worded differently?

Many people say with complete certainty that God is Love. Some say that Love is all there is. And only Love is real, that everything else is illusion. Love is the way. Love heals. The greatest commandment is Love one another as yourself etc…

Hmmm, Is that so? I’d like another opinion. Let’s ask his wife, Goddess what she has to say about this!

If Love is the really the One God/Goddess/nongender-omnipotent-being, what could the revised and updated commandments/signposts/suggestions be? How would they change?
What would the new list look like? And let me know if you want to keep the old list as is, but tell me why you do. Maybe I have over looked something.

I am looking for new thoughts here, no sarcastic punches-this is a sincere question. Funnies are always welcome! This is not to create any online religious holy wars!

ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’

TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’

THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’

FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’

FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’

SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’

SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.’

NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’

TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’

I’d want the original ones posted someplace…
I don’t know that love is god but the one commandment I’d have it
When you love someone and you know another person is better for them than you, let go.

1+2 If love was god, it is possible not necessarily essential that love would say I am your god but I don’t know if it’d say ‘there are no other gods’
3. I do agree Love would be against Valentine’s day
4. I do agree Love wouldn’t want its feelings expressed in vain or in lies
5. Sounds like a whole lot of good stuff to me – what would Love’s Sabbath be about? If I had the power, it’d be anything than holy.
6. Eh…love your parents, if they deserve it.
7+8+9+10…are all debatable…I can see of instances when all of these things can and should be done without ‘punishment’ or feeling like a ‘sinner’...and all of the situations can be about love.
11. Coveting…well that’s just stupid to expect that people will not covet. Surely, I don’t covet my neighbor’s wife but have you heard her screeching at her husband? I’d kill her before loving her.

2. Love your mate unconditionaly
3. Contribute your part in the relationship
4. Never abandon your mate.
5. Never cheat on your mate
6. Never comprimse your moral values for love
7. Never put your pocketbook before your mate
8. Your mate should be your top priority.
9. Never lust after another.
10. Encourage your mate to be thier best.

The Ten Commandments of Love

1 I am Love, love others, and in so doing you shall love me.

2 Do not pretend that something is more powerful than love, for love is not to be taken lightly.

3 Do not use the name love in vain, it should be meant wholly when used.

4 Remember to love everyday.

5 Love your father and mother… if they deserve it and love you.

6 You shall not murder, cause that is not lovely.

7 You shall not commit adultery, unless you do and it’s for love… or it’s okay and stuff… whatever.

8 You shall not steal, for this is not a lovely action, but a hateful one. Unless you really need it to live or to save a loved one… whatever.

9 Don’t lie and say your neighbor did something they didn’t do. Again… not lovely. Don’t you get it already? Jesus, you humans are dumb!

10 Covet whatever you want as long as it’s for love. Hot.

This is great all, keep these coming, I am going over each answer slowly with consideration to your details.
There can also be different number of commandments, as well as a totally different angle than the original 10.

The Ten Commandments boil down to the two that we find in the New Testament: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, etc. and love your neighbor as yourself. “Dos” vs. “do nots.”
There is no Goddess in the Judeo-Christian tradition.:/

More of a scripture than a commandment but here goes.When thy wife asks if her butt looks big in her dress,never ever whatever thou does under any circumstances tell her it does! Amen to that pilgrims.

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I find your revisions refreshing and funny! And I like that you brought up what Loves Sabbath would look like. If you can come up with something there, I welcome your thoughts.
@JeanPaulSartre Thanks for posting a link. I also find your list well thought, and your #4 seems to stand out more. I love that you can humerously point out the repetive redundancy in the 10.
So far I like your ideas.

1. Thou shall not cheat. 1a. Oral is still cheating
2. Thou shall not bring up trangressions forgiven more than a year ago.
3. Thou shall respect the right to use the bathroom in peace
4. Thou shall not invite over in laws without prior notice.
5. Thou shall never bang your best friends sibling.
6. Thou shall respect the right to ocassional self service.
7. Thou shall not entertain the idea of doubledates.
8. Thou shall have to deal with the ocassional dutch oven with good humor
9. Thou shall not ask incessant questions about exes. You got the prize already.
10. Thou shall practice patience because there will be times when the other is prone to being insufferable.

When did 6 become “thou shall not murder”?
It’s “Thou shall not kill”, a premise many who believe in the 10 commandments seem to forget about conveniently when it suits their political opinions.

And yes, you are correct, #6 is kill, but, I originally posted the question without the 10 C list, and the first person posted asking for the list, so I googled the original 10C and found so many versions, my head spinned! I copy/pasted the shortest list I saw first. sorry. I was dizzy at the moment!
@ChazMaz George is my favorite. thanks for posting that. It’s this exact video that started me questioning this subject about a month ago.

You shall know that you have taken the path to God, and you shall know that you have found God, for there will be these signs, these indications, and these changes in you:

These are your freedoms, not your restrictions. These are my commitments, not my commandments. For God does not order about what God has created——God merely tells God’s children: this is how you will know that you are coming home.

Moses asked in earnest—-“How may I know? Give me a sign.” Moses asked the same question that you ask now. The same question all people everywhere have asked since time began. My answer is likewise eternal. But it has never been, and never will be, a commandment. For whom shall I command? And who shall I punish should my commandments not be kept?

Henry, who was very elderly, was unhappy because he had lost his favourite hat. Instead of buying a new one, he decided he would go to church and steal one out of the entrance porch when the worshippers were busy praying.

When Henry arrived at the church an usher intercepted him at the door and took him to a pew where he had to sit and listen to the entire sermon on ‘The Ten Commandments.’
After the service, Henry met the vicar in the vestibule doorway, shook his hand vigorously, and told him, ‘I want to thank you Father for saving my soul today. I came to church to steal a hat and after hearing your sermon on the 10 Commandments, I decided against it.’

The vicar answered, ‘You mean the commandment ’ Thou shall not steal’ changed your mind?’
‘No, ‘retorted Henry, ‘the one about adultery did. As soon as you said that, I remembered where I had left my old hat.’

3 thou shalt not commit adultery (adultery defined as anything that would be cheating on them)

@SeventhSense Well, they’re supposedly just as important as the original 10, so yes, they are observed in Orthodox Judaism, but are not necessarily excluded from other branches.

The Hebrew term used is more closely related to “murder” than it is to “kill;” Hence the changes.

Wikipedia sez:
Multiple translations exist of the sixth commandment; the Hebrew words לא תרצח are variously translated as “thou shalt not kill” or “thou shalt not murder.” Older Protestant translations of the Bible, those based on the Vulgate and Roman Catholic translations usually render it as “Thou shalt not kill,” whereas Jewish and newer Protestant versions tend to use “You shall not murder.” There is controversy as to which translation is more faithful, and both forms are quoted in support of many opposing ethical standpoints.”

Given that post-Law Israel saw a lot of war (and a Dalai Lama approach to killing is highly impractical in war) and had capital punishment for crimes like murder, it makes more sense for the commandment to have just prohibited murder.

@SeventhSense The Amalekites were a civilization either led by or descended from Amalek. They are in the Bible as one of the more specific kinds of jerks that was eventually wiped out:
RationalChristianity sez:
The Amalekites attacked the Israelites without apparent provocation as they were travelling during the Exodus (Ex 17:8). “When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind” (Dt 25:17–18). They later attacked Israel during the time of the Judges (Jdg 3:13) and often raided the Israelites’ land after they had planted crops, leaving them with nothing (Jdg 6:2–5).
This went on for some 300 years, until they were wiped out in time of Saul and David.

There are likely no more Amalekites today, but the record serves to remind us that God is both patient (He gave them three hundred years to turn around!) and just (they were world-class jerks, and now they very permanently are not).
