Have you ever heard ligit voices in your head? Not creepy ones, but soothing, peaceful ones?

Asked by starshine (576points) March 2nd, 2010

I was looking at a picture of a really good friend the other day, and I couldn’t seem to look away from his eyes. something seemed to say “one day you’re gonna marry that boy, and together you’ll change the world.” I honestly think it might have been God. what should I do about this? do i ignore it and let life play out? Do I keep it my mind for later… Do I tell him about it? It was one of those things that just kinda gives you those peaceful, “oh, okay.” kinda feelings. Like everything is right with the world and nothing can ever change that. Me and this friend of mine are not together, in fact, he lives quite far from me. I’m just not sure how we are supposed to get together, or when exactly this is going to happen, or if maybe it was just wishful thinking from the deep recesses of mind or what. What do you think?

Um, no I don’t hear voices ever. You should have been here for the “Does God talk to modern people”? thread.(Edges carefully away, keeping @starshine in sight at all times)

What do the voices in your head say about the FL lotto numbers? PM please :)

But uh seriously kinda hard to say, I’d go with a logical response and say it is in your head and made it up,if you wanted to hear something like that you will.

Then again this is pretty hard to say…..how often does this happen??

Wishful thinking from the deep recesses of your mind sounds right for this.

What does “ligit” mean?

liminal's avatar

Did you audibly hear this voice or was it thinking?

starshine's avatar

@Steve_A , that was pretty much the only time it happened…
@nope , it means ligitimate…I guess I was kind of using it to mean I actually heard them, it wasn’t like someone messing with me or something.

Ah. I would’ve understood that I guess, if you used the word legit, instead.

Sorry, that was kind of mean, I guess.

Sleep deprivation does this to me, bad and good voices.

Usually it just tells me to drink paint though.

@nope…. haha sorry! I didnt even notice I was spelling that wrong! How dumb of me…I’ll spell it right next time…
@liminal…not 100% sure on that

actually, @starshine it is quite possible. Those who try to make you feel bad about it are simply speaking from ignorance. And they are jealous that you hear the voice, but they don’t

To your initial question I can say I have never heard audible voices.

Your second question as to what I think, well, if you are certain that there is no psychosis going on with you: does it really matter where it is coming from or if it really happened? It sounds like you feel peaceful about the experience. I wonder if the ultimate question is: Why not let it be?

Well I personally have no clue, you don’t seem crazy, said it only happened once, and I assume you don’t do or was on drugs so….

in the end I guess you yourself need to evaluate it better, what do you think it really was can you reach any conclusion?

Well as a reward for your good nature, I’ll answer your question then! In fact, your question struck a chord with me. I was in Reno many years ago with a few friends, it was kind of a birthday party for a friend’s girlfriend. Turned out, my friend had a bit of a gambling problem (which we didn’t know about) and would disappear for hours on end, so his girlfriend would hang out with me, drink beers, and play blackjack. We had a blast together, I didn’t know her very well, but it was fun nonetheless.

The second day we were there, we had spent all day out looking at local sights, and as we all split up in the late afternoon to rest & wash up before dinner, she (the girlfriend) was walking by, and I was hit with this sudden certainty…she was the girl I was going to marry. I’ve never, ever, been so 100% certain of anything in my life, and it was freaky.

A couple months later, my friend broke up with her, and I was the first one she called. Long story short at this point, I did end up marrying her, surprise, surprise.

I think therefore that I DO believe, to an extent, in “voices” as you say. I think also, however, that we often make our own future based on our strong beliefs. So in this case, I’m not sure if it was destiny, or ME, making my own future come true.

Good question.

@nope , oh my! That is so awesome! It’s actually really encouraging, thank you!
@Steve_A I love how you assume I’m not on drugs when I have a name like starshine. I’m not on drugs, but I just kinda find that funny.

Steve_A's avatar

@starshine is your name slang for a drug or something?

starshine's avatar

@Steve_A , no but there’s that song from the 70’s… good morning starshine, the earth says hello… kinda stonerish, but I guess its kinda how you take it.

Through out most of my childhood, I was a part of a vast intergalactic network of ‘ideas’. These thoughts went through me (my brain) and were broadcast throughout the universe.

There were a group of ‘people’ who were in contact with me through my thoughts, not verbal or audible, but just ‘ideas’. They helped me with my school work and also the personal issues I faced.

That voice is you. We all have them.
