Is Wen just Cetaphil?

Asked by MrsDufresne (3554points) March 3rd, 2010

Wen is a hair care line from Chaz Dean, that is quite pricey. Cetaphil is a facial cleanser that feels almost identical, only it is a lot less expensive.

Here are the ingredients in Wen.
Here are the ingredients in Cetaphil (under the ingredients tab.)

Despite a few ingredients like Sweet Almond oil, and other botanicals, are they basically the same thing?

They really don’t seem to be the same thing at all, as far as I can tell. Both products contain ingredients that are very common to personal care producs, particularly personal care products of the soap and shampoo category. I’m not an expert, but I wouldn’t advise. that you use Cetaphil on your hair. It might be o.k. the other way around, it probably would be o.k. to occasionally use Wen to wash your face, pricey, but you’re in the shower, can’t find your soap… but Cetaphil on your hair? Don’t do it.

Without looking at any of the info provided, I highly doubt that those two products are the same.

@MrsDufresne: Which “Wen” product are you talking about? Each one has different ingredients from the others…how can you ask if the whole line is the same thing as one soap product??

Want to know what it is? It’s conditioner. That’s it. When he was trying to think of a name, Chaz Dean just took ‘new’ and turned it around.

How do I know? I had an ex that was part of the infomercial. Well, she was until she told them that their product sucked.

@La_chica_gomela OOps, I should have clarified a bit better. I was referring to the first product listed, the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner.

Okay, now that I’ve actually compared the products, I can give you a resounding no. The ingredients are completely different!

Two VERY BIG differences, off hand:

The 3rd ingredient in cetaphil’s facial cleanser is sodium lauryl sulfate, a cleanser—great in face wash or soap, not what you want in conditioner, using that on your hair would be like washing your hair twice in a row instead of ever conditioning it.

The 2nd ingredient in the WEN conditioner is glycerin a lipid, ie a fat. That’s great in conditioner, probably not what you would want in a face soap, since most people believe that putting oil on your face will give you pimples.
