Can someone tell me what's up with downloading "Real Player"?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) March 3rd, 2010

I am having problems (still) with downloading Real Player (and also some other things.) Basically, I click “Download” and the box that appears says “Binary File-Do you want to Save?” (That’s it.) So, I press “Save”. Then I go into my Files to open and run it. When I click on the saved file…it comes up again as “Binary-File——Do you want to Save” with only “Save” as an option (not “Run”).

What am I missing here? Am I not clicking the correct links?

(Yeah, it’s probably simple…but I’m still stumped.)

What is the name of the file? Most importantly, the three letter suffix on the file.

Sorry, but why would you want Real Player? If you just need to play files in that format, try VLC Media Player. It’s free, and stable, and doesn’t come with all the advertising and other system issues that Real Player does. And it will play just about anything.

Don’t download Realplayer. Get VLC. @nope gets a GA.

And for any file, if you have only the choice to save it, do so. Then open and run the saved file.

Real Player is pretty much defunct and you don’t want it anyway. I second that you download VLC instead.

What they said. RealPlayer is practically spyware; you don’t want it on your system. You have to be careful not to end up with it, since they still bundle it with software that comes with some portable music players.
