Where does Theo Jansen get his foresight from?

I’m sure he reads a lot. He knows about genetics and evolution and mechanical engineering and computers and probably a lot more. He’s a tinkerer who probably grew up tinkering with machines in his basement or garage or something.

They may simulate everything on the computer first. There are programs that can simulate evolution. It allows for random “mutations” in the code for a “creature” and those that survive get reproduced. The same thing happens with his beach creatures.

This is how science meets engineering and gee whiz results.
