What would you guys write about Madrid for Spanish class?

Asked by nailpolishfanatic (6637points) March 7th, 2010

I‘m learning Spanish in school and last Monday the teacher told us that we had to choose one city from Spain and write some slides about the city in PowerPoint and present it next Monday. I chose Madrid but I am really not sure what I should write about the city. Do you guys here have any ideas?

I would probably look it up in an encyclopedia or two, and then write my presentation based on what it said.

@La_chica_gomela , I am doing that right now… I’m using the internet and reading in the encyclopedia book too… I’ve written about the population, the mayor, I want to write about the squares too like Puerta de Sol and Plaza Mayor, but I don’t know what to write:(

I would go with a totally random small town. Teachers hate hearing about the same thing over and over again. I’m sure lots of people have done Madrid. Give them new information and your grade will improve. What about Granada? That has some history.

@johnpowell , OMG!! you are so right!
I cant choose Granada because it wasn’t on the list.
The list :
alicante
barcelona
valencia
madrid
malaga
sevilla
córdoba
mallorca

Write í íslensku. Your skólafélaga won’t see spelling villur. Gangi þér vel.

Theres lots of webcams showing views of Madrid live which I watch on my I Pod Touch.
You can also look at google maps on streetlive or whatever you call it.
I lived there for some time and in the summer the heat was almost unbearable ( asqueroso ) also in the summer lots left the city because of the heat.
Its park, the Retiro, is a nice place for a walk.
Maybe as some have suggested you should choose another town instead of Madrid? Valencia is very interesting.

Málaga looks interesting.

Now I can’t decide between Málaga and Valencia. :S

How long does the speech have to be?

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

just 10 minutes….

p.s. I have kind of phobia for standing in front of people and talking, and also I don’t really go to dances because I don’t feel comfortable being surrounded by lots of people I don’t know:( But I am fighting it and starting not to care.

I feel you. I hate giving speeches. I don’t mind if it is reading stuff others wrote. But I hate reading what I wrote. I get all sweaty and want to be the last person picked for giving the speech. And then I pray to be sick that day so I don’t have to go school.

That was in the past

Now I don’t really mind. Damn near everyone hates doing it so I like to go first. Life is easier if you get it out of the way. Now you can relax while everyone else is stressed out.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

I will do so… :D

Sandydog's avatar

Best of luck with the speech and try not to think of others listening to you.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@Sandydog , I’ll really try not to

Two things always spring to mind when I think about Madrid. The people have rather high-pitched voices, & they talk too fast.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@Cloverfield , OMG!!! so true! hispanic people always speak spanish so fast;)

JeffVader's avatar

@Thesexier Dont they just… I grew up in the south (Andalucia) where they have a more relaxed & slow way of speaking, so when I visited Madrid it really suprised me… They all sounded really funny :)

hahahha;D@cloverfield ;D
