I need advice regarding my Final Year Project...

Asked by ModernEpicurian (1638points) March 15th, 2010

I’m currently in the middle (Okay, beginning) of my final year project write up, and I was wondering whether you lovely Flutherites could give me a few pointers on the write up.

It’s for my degree in Biology/Biochemistry, just in case you were wondering :-)

My advice would be to talk to your professor or your TA and ask them.

cite your work and research properly…

It is not even clear to me from the info you provided what it is exactly you are trying to write….

If this is a master’s thesis, you are screwed.

You must find out what writing style manual you need to use.

I’d guess you will be expected to use APA form rather than MLA.

Buy the style manual and read the whole thing before starting to write your final draft.

You must an an academic advisor supervising your research. Talk to them.

Read good examples of the kind of document you are expected to produce.

Assemble a small group of people to read your final draft and critic your writing for clarity, grammar and punctuation.

Most of the homework assignments we refuse to do are at the middle or high school level.

Congratulations for exceeding all prior standards for “how do I do this homework assignment?”

I feel that my question is far beyond anything you talk of. I am not asking you to comment in any way on the detection of the presence of silica in higher plants using fluorescent probes.

The content of the writing is for me to worry about. The science is for me to worry about.

I was just asking if people who had done a similar degree or paper perhaps could give me guidance on purely the writing style. At the end of the day papers have to be peer reviewed and my past experiences of this have not been pleasant with me having to draft a paper thrice to get it published in a minor journal.

So I asked for help on this aspect. Don’t worry, I wont again. Not after such a cynical answer.

I had come to love Fluther.
