How can I stop delivery of junkmail?

Asked by LalenaMikala (57points) March 24th, 2010

I don’t want to waste so much paper, and I can’t seem to get off the lists and stop receiving ads, credit card offers, etc.!

Perhaps invest in a lock up post box where the gap is very small, only enough to slide a letter through. It’s a shot in the dark as I imagine smaller ads would get through, but it would cut down on bulk.

Be aware of whom you are giving your address to in various dealings daily as well. Also do not give your cell phone number unless entirely necessary. It is so sad our trees are being wasted like this.

What have you tried so far? There are numbers at the bottom of most credit card promotion mailers that you can call to be taken off their lists. Also, if you google something like “stop junk mail” you can find all kinds of online registrations. The problem is, it won’t stop you from getting mail from organizations that aren’t on those particular registrations. It’s nearly impossible to get rid of all of it, but make a few calls and fill out a few online things and it should stop a lot of it. Mine has died down greatly since doing just a few calls and sign ups.

Lifehacker.com has a lot of articles about different services to reduce the junk mail you get. Here is their most recent (I believe): http://lifehacker.com/5473299/catalog-choice-rids-your-mailbox-of-unwanted-catalogs

On the right side of the article, at the bottom of the “more about” box, try clicking the #junkmail link to get a list of other articles.

P.S. I haven’t ever tried any of these, so I can’t say whether or not they work well.

Yes it is, you’d think they’d give up and just keep spaming our email accounts!

@erichw1504 it’s so sad, it takes years and years to grow a tree, it takes minutes to toss it into the rubbish bin as an “ad”. But of course life is all about “sell” and money our poor planet.

You can’t, but you can reduce it. Start here: http://www.donotmail.org/article.php?id=50

Tell them to take you off of their mailing lists or you’ll them on Ted Kaczynski’s mailing list. ;-)
