What does it mean when cats sneeze?

Asked by Rayvin14 (351points) March 24th, 2010

I have four inside cats, and they are ALL sneezing. Is it something serious?

Clean your house. They spend most of their time closer to the floor than you do.

Pollen? I wouldn’t worry about it, my kitty has allergy’s too.

They’re allergic to people ;)

Something on your floor is irritating them – probably pollen at this time of year.

Vacuum/sweep/dust more often and change the filters on your furnace. Also brush them regularly until their sniffles clear up.

Has this ever happened before? I am assuming no.

It’s either some type of allergen or they all inhaled something. If kitties somehow had access to open flame they could have burned the inside of their nostrils, but you’d most likely see singed whiskers had that occurred.

Time for a group trip to the vet.

thank you so much @Cruiser

Do they have a catarrh? Maybe you could get a catapult and launch one across the room head first into a wall. Then you’d have a catastrophe.
That was a joke. I’ve had my cat since 1996. Her rickety blind ass got outside almost two weeks ago and she hasn’t found her way back. I’m really worried. Please, no one for one minute think I meant it about hurting a cat.

Generally when my cat sneezes it means that she will fart shortly there after. I don’t entertain often…..

I believe cats generally sneeze for the same reasons humans do. If it is persistent or becomes chronic, take kitty to the vet.

have you cleaned your carpets lately? carpet shampoo is really bad for animals. it could be that.

Keep a close watch on their eyes to see if there is any gunk which could indicate a cold or infection.

Also watch their nose for any kind of discharge. If you suspect infection of any type, be on the safe side and get them to the vet asap.

Cats are instinctively very skilled at hiding when they aren’t feeling well and can get very seeiously sick very fast. Just keep this in mind.

Cats will often sneeze in the days prior to bringing up furballs.

They’re trying to exorcise the demon from within.Cats are evil fuckers, allegedly.

When my cat sneezes it is because he has just jumped up onto a bench-top that I have covered in white pepper. (I have to re-train him every few months. White pepper and double sided adhesive tape are the two most effective methods. )

It means it’s going to rain.

No, it doesn’t, I just heard some people joking about that on the radio the other day.
