Asked by joon1986 (185points) March 26th, 2010

I am looking for good but cheap speaker for PS3
The ones I can find in bestbuy and futureshop is pretty expensive and they don’t even look that good
I am thinking about spending around $100…I live in Windsor Canada…so I don’t have much resources offline…
I don’t have anything particular in mind but something decent would be perfect for me
please provide me with link or place with price…

I’m using some speakers that were state-of-the-art in the early 90’s. Their sound is still surprisingly good. If you’re all about budget, try looking for some old used stereo system that uses the three red/white/yellow thingies.

I doubt you like the idea of going retro, but I was surprised at how good this system sounds. Even though it’s almost as old as I am.

I just hook my PS2 (yeah, I’m behind the curve) up to my 1000W 5.1 surround DVD player. It cost ~$180, which might be a little high for you, but it has a few advantages that I consider well worth the price.

Sure, the PS3 can play DVDs on it’s own, but it lacks an AM/FM tuner, and I’m not sure how well it handles a USB Flash drive full of AVI, Divx, JPG, MP3, and WMA files. I know my PS2 can’t handle those, nor can it take a line-in from my PC or Sansa. If you shop around, you might be able to find an acceptable deal on a decent home entertainment system with good speakers (and lots of them).

Failing that, I used to have a decent set of Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 PC speakers that I picked up at Staples for $30 so I suppose you could go that route. It has the added advantage that they usually have the speakers set up so that you can try them out and see how they sound before you buy them; a big plus!
