What kind of fundraiser can I do?

Asked by sevenfourteen (2422points) March 30th, 2010

I was just informed that I need to come up with a fundraiser to run next February for an international student club. I need the idea by tomorrow and I was just told an hour ago so needless to say I don’t have any ideas. I really don’t want to do anything valentine’s day-ish because I feel like there are enough of those. If it sparks any ideas next February is a leap year, and it doesn’t have to be something international but that would be good if it was. Oh and I can only spend $50 to fund it.

umm…Do you realize that it’s almost April, and next year isn’t a leap year?

The calender for 2011 said it’s a leap year (guess they lied) and I know it’s about to be April hence I need to run it next February. I have to decide now because the budget is being written for the club and all the plans need to be solid before my school will give us any money.

Sell international beers. The markups are high and I suspect the marketing will be viral.

@sevenfourteen. Ooooh. I was confused there. And yeah, leap years are only when the year is divisible by 4. Last time I checked, 11 isn’t divisible by 4. 12 is. Sorry about being a nerd there :)

50 bucks isn’t much.
Might want to go with some kind of marathon. Encourage costumes and chains. All runners need sponsers to give so much per mile run.
Ya, it’s lame, but like I said, 50 bucks ain’t much.

@ChocolateReigns: Important note, all years divisible by 4 are not leap years. Years divisible by 100 are NOT leap years unless they are also divisible by 400.

Go to your local Applebee’s ask the manager to help, they are community supporter. No dollars upfront except banners or signs.

They cook and you and the volunteers seat, serve and clear. Remember to ask for TIPS.

We served 95 people including 25 “free tickets for community supported people” and cleared over $1000. 7 – 10 AM fun for all.

Fundraiser “flap jacks are easy” remember to advertise in local newspaper and post flyers may grt free support from newspaper or sign makers!!!

Best of luck!

@ChocolateReigns It’s ok I figured someone was going to point that out..

@malevolentbutticklish I’m on a college campus, I don’t think that’d go over well.. The students would love it but administration wouldn’t.

@filmfann @Tropical_Willie those are both good ideas, but @filmfann idk how involved college kids would be in physical exercise
@Tropical_Willie there’s already a ton of clubs that do dinners. I was offered pancake breakfast just yesterday.. but I can pitch the idea

You can get the best fund raising advice from a fund raising website. There are usually dozens of ideas, with explanations how to do it. One of my favorites is the “homeless” dinner – where people buy a plate, only there is no food on it, or only a bowl of soup. They don’t even have to come to the event.

@sevenfourteen: too bad students pay up to 50K/yr to be told they can’t drink a beer

February…is it Mardi gras???? Mardi Gras around the world…....

Chinese New Years…..Presidents Day….. I really love the Mardi Gras….fat Tuesday theme.

Hmm. Well. You could have a marathon of some type. it doesn’t have to be physical exercise. It could be something college kids are famous for…how about a pizza-eating contest? Or maybe something your college is famous for. They have a gym, or some fields of some sort, right? That would be what you would use.

sevenfourteen's avatar

@YARNLADY then who DO we give food to? or is that the point?

YARNLADY's avatar

@sevenfourteen There is no food involved, it is to highlight that they have nothing to eat.
