Has anyone taken or currently taking political science?

Asked by Steve_A (5125points) March 31st, 2010

I have been looking at this class and talked to an academic advisor at a local community college to start core classes or least get a liberal arts degree.

So for people who have taken or taking this class, how was it?

Did you like it?
What did you get out of it?

Any information and opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

To me it was a repeat of high school civics. That being said I have heard that a lot of high schools do not even offer civics or government. It is a good course to take for personal knowledge if you have had civics or a necessary (in my opinion) to take if you haven’t taken a class on our government, its processes and how it deals with the outside world.

I loved it. Although it was still mainstream. No mention of anything important really until the Watergate studies.

poly sci was very interesting, tho I admit I took it during the Watergate crisis, so we focused on that.

I currently am.

It’s a great class if you can get a great professor. Mine is smart, excited about the topic, and doesn’t stress the academic part of the class. He also has great activities.

I know a few people taking a polisci class with a different professor, though, and they don’t seem to be liking it, and nearly falling asleep in class.
They also are not getting nearly as good of grades as I am.

So it depends on the teacher. Ask around or go online to Ratemyprofessor and see what others say about it.
