Which job pays better?

Asked by ashxmy_lovee (161points) March 31st, 2010

In your opinion, does it pay better to work at a department store, a smaller clothing store in the mall(like Charlotte Russe), or a bookstore(like Barnes & Noble)?

They probably all pay about the same at entry level. I think the book store would be more stimulating, especially if they let you read some of the books when it is slow.

A clothing store is the most likely of the three to offer commissions on sales.

It’s retail and entry level, it’s going to probably be minimum wage regardless.

It depends on the specific store, but they will all pay similar wages (close to or at minimum) unless you work for a higher end clothing place.

Most of those jobs are minimum wage. Each might have their perks- percentage off product or something. It would all depend on what you wanted to do more, what was more interesting for you.

I would suggest calling before or asking about wages and such during interviews. In today’s economy, it doesn’t hurt to apply to as many places as you can. You might not have a choice if you need work.

I’m gonna go ahead and connect this question to the others that you have asked.
Once again.. you’re 16. Even from your list of places you’re interested in, you’ll be lucky if one of them calls you back.
You can’t be too picky right now.

At the end of the day. They are all a wash.

Apply to all of them.
Take the best one you can get.

Think about the perk you want, free clothes or free books. .. .

davidbetterman's avatar

It depends on whether or not you get a commission plus a salary…

Element's avatar

Yes i agree with Davidbetterman, it depends on if you get commission. and a salary.

The best way to find out is to interview with all, get offers for employment from all, then look at your options.
