Do mock turtles live up to their name?

Asked by susanc (16139points) April 1st, 2010

I know you can make soup out of them and everything, but
... I wonder how they do the “mock” thing.

When you put the meat back together I imagine it would look more like a creation of Dr. Frankenstein than a turtle.

They can be very cutting with their remarks. One made my sister-in-law cry.

I don’t get it either. Are we supposed to think that there is more neck under the half that is shown? I think they were designed to hide teenage hickies.

‘whiting?... it does the boots and shoes…
Boots and shoes under the sea?...... Why, they’re made of soles and eels, of course. Any shrimp could have told you that.’

Of course mock turtles live up to their name. That’s what makes them so sad. They’re not not real turtles… they’re only ‘Quasi Testudines’. sooo sad…. sooo sad…..

Look at the beginning of @erichw1504‘s recipe.

”“Take a large calf’s head. Scald off the hair. Boil it until the horn is tender, then cut it into slices about the size of your finger…”

I’ll spare you the rest.
