Do you enjoy the Farmers Market?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) April 2nd, 2010

I am looking forward to the opening of them. How about you?
They always seem to have the best produce right off the farm.

I adore them! Atlanta’s is huge! I get tons of stuff, plus they have awesome pets for sale, and a bird show that comes twice a year. I am a parrot lover from way back. Hey, did you know that HIspanic flea markets have the most incredible deals anywhere?? It’s true! Your money goes a Looooong way at those things :)

I do. There’s one here at Stanford Shopping Center and I love it. :)

It’s right near Sprinkle’s Cupcakes. :)

I love them, but there aren’t any good ones in my area anymore.

I used to accompany my grandmother to one all the time when I was very young, and those are some of my favorite memories.

Over time, most of the farmers moved out, the quality of the goods diminished, and the whole place was turned into a super Target.

Sure do, not only for the fresh fruits and veggies, but also as a (sometimes) artist for the colors, shapes and compositions.

Meh, they are better than the supermarkets, but a lot of the produce sold in the farmer’s market here are slyly sourced from supermarkets! wtf! I volunteered on a local organic farm last weekend and got to snack on their leafy greens. The difference in flavor and texture due to freshness is STARK. I forgot how good it tastes right out of the ground. The market in Hilo is the best in the state – I go every time I visit the Big Island.

love love LOVEEE farmers markets :) although the ones around here aren’t much more than that- fresh fruits, veggies, jam and other farm products.

LOL everyone I can’t wait for the one we had last year to open.

Yes!

There is a local community garden a few miles from me that opens every summer.
It’s on the honor system and so great to show up around dusk on a summer night and pick your own stuff!

Everything including flowers, plums, and lots of exotic oddities.

I can’t wait!

In our local town I used to run a mobile phone shop and we had a farmers market every first thursday of the month. I used to really look forward to it because the local ostrich farmer would set up outside my store and block my window. At the end of the day in he would stroll with a couple of ostrich steaks and a pack of ostrich burgers for the inconvenience!
Mmmm you really must try it.

Yes I do, I just love them. I love getting the fresh produce, and trying new fruits and vegetables, but my favorite is getting the fresh bacon from one vendor. Yummy!

In NJ we have a lot of roadside markets that set up. Some are as small as a pickup truck and some get elaborate. I love it because it’s sold directly from the farmers, usually right along side their farms. Usually somewhat cheaper than the supermarket but always much fresher. Ah, the Garden State.

They’re freaking awesome. I can’t get enough of them. I buy enough chiles to last for months. I wish the smell of roasting chiles came in a scent I could spray all over my house.

LOL @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities
I like pepper but sometimes they are too hot.
I also love Spanish and Mexican food but I need recipes.

Absolutely! We’ve been going to ours all winter. They’re still open, selling wintery stuff like baked goods, meats, eggs from carefully wintered chickens, onions and starchy root vegetables, mushrooms grown indoors, homemade soap and home-canned sauces and sauerkraut, etc.

Fresh produce from local farmers at great prices. Are you kidding me? What’s not to love?

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Love buying stuff only a few miles from where it was grown and picked,

Fresh and tasty—support the local farmers.
