Is the A&E reality show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" staged ?

Asked by Pretty_Lilly (4660points) April 2nd, 2010

I have seen the show a few times and aside from believing they’re both the undisputed King & Queen of WT!
I have always wondered if the whole thing is staged for TV and the so-called fugitives are hand picked, ensuring an easy & certain capture,in the process making them look good.
He usually wears a lot bling, bling, fancy boots with a drag queen style hairdo & his big TT wife looks silly as hell, running around in high heels with everything flopping all over the place when she chases after the fugitives plus their only weapon is industrial size pepper spray!?
I cannot see them being able to capture a 6’8 300lbs biker who is not willing to go peacefully or any hardcore criminal for that matter.

No…...it is not staged…..he is short and wears elevator boots.
He helped capture a criminal, a rapist, who went down to mexico, a think a max factor heir. Bounty hunters can not catch convicts and bring them back from Mexico, why so many sleazebags hide out thee. Anyhow, Dog got in legal trouble for catching this guy and tryin to bring him back to LA.
Yes, his wife is trampy, stripper chic, but I do believe he is for real.

I recently saw an older episode in which they went into a condo building to apprehend a suspect, they all went through the back and left the front door unguarded,,, of course the guy ran out the front door,Dog’s tiny daughter happened to have staid back in the vehicle and decided to try to apprehend him,she grabbed hold of his sleeve and was dragged half a city block by the guy.
Then Beth went ghetto on the guy;of how she was gonna “Sumo” splash him for roughing up her daughter. The whole thing just looked so unrealistic.

I don’t know how many bounty hunters carry guns, but it was mentioned by him that he is not permitted to carry a gun due to his previous felony record. He could have chosen to just sling a load of BS about how carrying guns just prompts an unnecessarily violent response bla bla bla but he just told it like it is so I’ll give him props for that.

He’s been pretty upfront about his wayward youth, drugs, jail time and how he realized, while in jail, that he didn’t want to continue this type of lifestyle.

All reality shows are not really true reality simply because the presence of cameras changes things merely by their presence.

However, they were doing this for a living for many years before TV came calling. It’s not like he’s a total fraud without any skills at all.

But their program isn’t outright deceptive the way that the one with Bear Grylls ended up being.

I think it would just be common sense for them to be somewhat selective in which criminals they chose to go after when they know that there will be “civilians” coming along (namely the camera crew) but that certainly doesn’t make it a total fraud.

But I always watch “reality” TV shows with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Dog and his clan are a bunch of hypocrites. They have prayer before they go ‘bounty hunting’ and them cuss like a drunking soilder. I can’t stand any of them.
