Why does my bunny keep peeing on the bed?

Asked by whyigottajoin (1149points) April 4th, 2010

We’ve had this bunny for a while now, she’s housebroken normaly, but she still pees on our bed sometimes. I really don’t get it. I mean I love it when she hops on our bed and runs around and hops off again, but I will never let that rabbit on my bed again from now on, this was the last straw.

(Why have you placed you bed under where your bunny wants to pee?)

Maybe she just got over excited, or simply “had to go”.

I don’t know, but I love how it was a cute fluffy little bunny then became a rabbit…I could feel the anger rise lol

It may have something to do with your own body scent in the bed & bedding. Only a guess.

If she’s peed there before, maybe she can still smell it and that’s why she continues to pee there. You might not notice an odor, but her bunny nose can.

I’d look into products that can treat the mattress and remove any residual odor, unless you just want to keep things simple and not let her on the bed again.

I agree with MissAusten. The rabbit can probably still smell the urine. If the pee soaked into the mattress you are pretty much screwed. If not, wash all bedding in a special wash.

You could get a waterproof mattress cover to put over the bed when she is on it. I use one one over the top of the bed and covers in the cat’s room to protect the bed.

We have this blue thing over the bed that covers the whole thing, she has peed on it before but we threw it in the laundry, it was fresh when she peed on it lol. I always pull it off wash the whole blue thing right after .. Maby she wants to mark her territory or something. I’m not letting her on the bed again thats for sure though
