Have you ever heard of the TV-O-MATIC?

Asked by johnny0313x (1855points) April 15th, 2010

I am the proud owner of a 1980’s TV-O-MATIC lol – I bought this couch used, it’s very small and red and has that grandma like weaved fuzzy fiber all over it! I noticed a sticker on the twin sized pull out bed that says TV-O-MATIC. This couch seriously looks like it is straight out of the 80’s and I kind of love the tackiness of it. I was just wondering if anyone remembered anything about it, sounds like it might have been very innovative for it’s time lol I believe the bed is adjustable but have not tried it out yet because I am at work. I have had the couch almost a year and never really questioned these sweet features that were just tucked away under the seated area lol

Huh. Not what the name implies to me. It just kind of props you up so you can watch tv. All it takes is a flip of the wrist.

I sold furniture for a retail store in the nineties, and most of the pull-out sleeper furniture had a device on the frame that would prop up the head of the bed for TV watching.

Hm. My first thought was an episode of Rocko’s Modern Life. lol

The TV means Transvestite. the couch is easily converted into something other than it appears.

@filmfann It’s not the tv-o-matic’s fault if it was born a bed in a sofa’s body

I bought a TV o matic at a tag sale for $70…loved it!! Red Vinyl!! Sadly it got destroyed in a move but it was a red chair that folded out to be a twin bed. I’m trying to find another one!
