Layers add volume. For that reason, I always advocate them for people with less than voluptuous hair. The type of layers? Well, that entirely depends on how much you want to change your look. To keep your look somewhat the same, just ask for long layers all around.

well i have kinda thought about side swept bangs…but i get really nervous about changing what my hair looks like and layers is kinda big for me

go for it. change is good. you might love it. and if you dont, it will grow back

I just got extensions to add volume. That way I can wear it long but still have an appropriate frame for my face.
According to THIS article, you should be able to wear just about any type style with an oval face.

Layers will thin out your hair at the ends. Because you have an oval face you can get away with anything but because it is your first time I would ask for soft layering around your face that way if you don’t like it you won’t be missing too much of your hair and you won’t need to get it chopped off if it turns out wrong for you.
