Asked by klajdi (4points) April 24th, 2010

I am a Business student living in Europe in a little country. I follow the tech industry every day and I want to work in that industry. I am looking for advices on how to enter in this industry, like are there any internships, programs, anything.

All I can say is that my son who is a programmer was just out in San Francisco for six months trying to get a job at one of the big companies with no success. It is very competitive out there now. I don’t know how it would be for internships; you might try the websites of specific companies.

Improve your English. To be successful as a remote IT worker, the folks who are in the office at home have to trust in your communication skills in both directions.

Get some experience. Join open source projects. Be the best programmer on some projects and the worst programmer on others.

Wait a second. You’re not an engineering student, but a business student. In Silicon Valley, programmers build things that other people use. The businesspeople are an unfortunate side effect.
