Maybe NSFW .. How did you pick your underwear?

So I am wondering how we (both men and women) go about picking what style, cut and fabrics we prefer as our underwear. Would you say that you did it purely on the comfort of them? Or does the way the look play more of a role? Maybe you are afraid of being seen in something else so you settle for what is fashionable? Let us know what it is for you.
