What are some movies you can reccommend that I put in my Netflix queue?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) May 4th, 2010

I found out a couple days that almost all the video stores in my neighborhood are going out of business. So, I’ve opted to restart my Netflix account. I’m drawing a complete blank though as to what to put in my queue. For those of you who have it, what’s in your queue?
I know that Netflix does suggest films, but I’ve chosen to ask my fellow jellies.

Oh, my queue is quite long just now, and it has everything from the old Brideshead Revisited BBC series, which I missed when it was broadcast on Masterpiece Theatre, to the Robert Downey Sherlock Homes from a year ago.

I always have a few oldies I consider “remedial”—right now including an old Katherine Hepburn film (Long Day’s Journey into Night) and an Alfred Hitchcock (Notorious) that I’ve never seen—and some classics like the Ian McxKellen Macbeth. I also have the recent romance The Time Traveler’s Wife and a remarkable (but misnamed) film called Wit that I’ll be seeing for the second time. And Fritz Lang’s 1927 Metropolis and the not-yet-released Crazy Heart. A fair spread, I’d say.

@Jeruba I was looking at the new movies just last night. I got all excited to see Sherlock Holmes. There was a proviso at the bottom that said “Not to be confused with the blockbuster….’ If you actually see the one with Robert Downey Jr, I’d love to know where it is. I’ll drop everything and watch it right now!

@Trillian, it’s only just out on DVD, maybe as of today (May 5th). I have it in my queue.

I just got The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnasus, and thought it was amazing. I returned it yesterday and The Brothers Bloom is on its way to me. I’m anxiously awaiting the release of Crazy Heart, The Road, and Sherlock Holmes. I do have to say I am VERY impressed with how well they nail my tastes by me simply rating movies I’ve seen.
