Does anyone remember the name of this movie or skit?

It takes place in a nuclear power plant control room. Old Joe is retiring after working there from the beginning.
Just before he leaves his coworkers ask him for any words of advice. He calls back to them, “You can’t use too much cooling water” and leaves.
They then have a discussion about what he meant by that. Should we use more water? Less? The camera fades away and in the distance we see a flash and a mushroom cloud rise above the city.
This will be perfect for a retirement party but I just can’t find it. Was it SNL or was it in a movie?

It was on SNL.

I think it first aired after the Three Mile Island incident in March or April, 1979.

I’m going to see if I can find the ep on YT.

That sounds great. You gave me a place to start.

Wasn’t that called the Pepsi Syndrome? Garret Morris and Jimmy Carter if I recall.

That one is a little different. The one I’m thinkig about had a retirement theme.
I remember the quote: “You can’t use too much cooling water.” It sounds clear at first until you think about it and then you are screwed.

I think Jimmy was going to retire, and after the nuclear spill, he grew to something like 50 feet tall. Garrett Morris was the cleaning lady they sent in with a mop and pail, and she grew to fifty feet, and at the end, they both went off together. Holy shit, talk about retaining too much useless info.

@worriedguy

I think know which one that might be.

I think it aired after Chernobyl and included Dennis Miller.

I’ll check the IMDb 1986 ep’s.

Damn- IMDb doesn’t show any synopses for 1986.

I found this mention of the same episode on another site, it’s one more clue “Ed Asner played a retiring nuclear power plant operator, whose final advice to the team was, “Don’t forget, and this is critical! You can’t use too much cooling water.” It ended with a mushroom cloud, as I recall. :D”

For some reason this is blocked by NBC and the phrase is, “Remember, you can’t put too much water in a nuclear reactor. ”
