Is it normal to wear clothes from when I was 10?

Asked by Draconess25 (4461points) May 4th, 2010

I’m almost 20, & some of my clothes (mostly t-shirts) from 10 years ago still fit me.

And I wear them.

Is this….odd?

It is not usual as:

a) Most people would not fit into clothes they wore when they were 10
b) Most people would no longer own clothes they have when they were 10
c) Most people would not like the type of clothing they used to wear when they were 10

Ultimately, if you can still fit them and like them, then go for it. It hurts no one. It is definitely unusual though :)

Pics or it never happened.

Draconess25's avatar

@Rachienz I dressed almost exactly the same as I do now. But less accesories.

rangerr's avatar

I can fit into boys mediums.
Girls, I generally need a large.
I have 17 Star Wars t-shirts that are boys medium/larges.
I have shirts that are size 6x that I still fit me.
My Rocket Power shirt from when I was 9? Fuckyeah, I still wear that.
My Barney shirt from when I was 5? Yep. I wear that too.

My pants don’t fit me anymore because my legs are ridiculously long, but I’ll wear my t-shirts.

I don’t think it’s odd. Even if it is, I generally don’t give a shit who thinks what about me and what I wear.

Chongalicious's avatar

I have them as far back as 6th grade!!! Haha oh wait..that’s only 6 years…damn :/

Draconess25's avatar

@bob_ White, yellow, or grey shirt?

Cruiser's avatar

When you get to be my age and you can still say that then I might say you need a new wardrobe!

tinyfaery's avatar

Don’t you people have boobs?

bob_'s avatar

@Draconess25 d) All of the above.

rangerr's avatar

@tinyfaery Ha. ha. hahahahahahahahahahahaha. I wish.

Draconess25's avatar

@tinyfaery I like my shirts tight.
@bob_ No. I’m not putting on that many shirts!

Sarcasm's avatar

@tinyfaery That’s why I can’t wear any clothes from when I was 10. :/

I wouldn’t consider it to be normal, for the reasons @Rachienz mentions. It can’t be normal simply because most people aren’t able to do it.
But I wouldn’t consider it to be weird, or bad. Just abnormal. Like being left-handed. and everyone knows us lefties are superior.

Draconess25's avatar

@Sarcasm I’m ambidextrous.

deni's avatar

no. i have a shirt from the 1996 baseball all star team i was on…it looks way better on me now than it did then :) in short, childrens tshirts are much cooler than adults. how often do you see adult shirts with dinosaurs on them? not very often. and i’ve looked.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Alas, as much as I’d enjoy wearing my old Spidey Whities again, somehow I just don’t think they’d fit any longer. Perhaps I should market them to young gals on eBay!

“Used Aqua Man Skivvies”

I guess we could call that a No Reserve Auction.

bob_'s avatar

Okay, yellow.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’d be proud. It means you have not porked up like 60% of America.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

maybe she started off porked up… have you seen the kids in this country?

lilikoi's avatar

I still have and wear clothes that I got in high school. That’s almost 10 years ago for me. Mostly t-shirts that haven’t really changed much in 10 years in terms of style.

Draconess25's avatar

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies I had to be force-fed when I was little. I weighed 70 lbs. until I was 12.

chyna's avatar

I still have my jean jacket I wore in high school, does that count? That was in the 70’s. I could actually wear it if I didn’ have boobies.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Damn those Boobies! Always getting in the way of classic fashion.

Draconess25's avatar

@bob_

Here. It’s not very good. I was too close to the camera.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

I remember a few years back shooting for a particular modeling agency in L.A. They mostly had pin up style girls and their comp cards needed to be extra uber fleshy sexy… almost cheap looking.

Hey it was a client. I make the clients happy.

Well, the agency told me to shop with the models at little girls clothing shops. The shirts were tighter, and the skirts were much much shorter. As sexy sassy as the girls looked, I must confess to feeling quite odd being surrounded by mothers and daughters watching me dress mid twenties bomb shells and having them test pose in the clothing in the store.

Those were the days.

rangerr's avatar

@Draconess25 I didn’t break 100 pounds until my junior year.

And I can fit into boys size 8 underwear. FUCKYEAH NINJA TURTLES.

Cupcake's avatar

@rangerr I lurve you.

tragiclikebowie's avatar

I still wear my soccer jerseys from when I was 8–11. And my 4th grade graduation t-shirt with everyones signatures. And my boobs are much bigger than they were when I was that age. They’re just shirts, they can stretch, so, w/e.

cockswain's avatar

Since dinosaur t-shirts were mentioned, this shirt will never go out of style in my opinion.

Draconess25's avatar

@cockswain I’m gonna buy that now!

cockswain's avatar

I get choked up every time I see it.

Captain_Fantasy's avatar

Actually yes it is odd.
Buy new clothes. Vintage is only cool if you didn’t own it when it was originally popular.

Draconess25's avatar

@Captain_Fantasy None of what I wear was ever “popular”. Except corsets, but that was waaayy back.

Draconess25's avatar

@toomuchcoffee911 Well, it’s true! In high school, everyone always asked if was goth or emo! They couldn’t get it in their thick skulls that I’m nothing but ME!

WolfFang's avatar

@Draconess25corsets are sexy

Storybooklover's avatar

My tee shirts don’t last that long… but I wish they did, so I’d say your’re unusually lucky.

Facade's avatar

“Normal” no, but there’s nothing wrong with it.
I can probably fit half a tit into the shirts from when I was 10…

bob_'s avatar

@Draconess25 You don’t look too skinny. Guess you just have durable shirts.

Draconess25's avatar

@bob_ I don’t look too skinny?! What’s that supposed to mean?!?!

chyna's avatar

@bob_ Bad answer dude.

cockswain's avatar

Wow, I think Bob just called you fat.

Draconess25's avatar

@bob_ Does this look fat to you?!

bob_'s avatar

@Draconess25 No. I said too skinny, as in unhealthy skinny. You are obviously not fat.

Brian1946's avatar

@Draconess25

Not to me.
Do you work out?

Draconess25's avatar

@bob_ Oh. Okay, then!
@Brian1946 Not like regular exercise, but I just like to run around a lot, climb trees/buildings & such. And sparring with people twice my size certainly helps!

Brian1946's avatar

@Draconess25

I like the results!

Draconess25's avatar

@Brian1946 Thanks! Unfortunately, seeing as it was a rather crappy photo, you can’t see my other results: The scars.

chyna's avatar

@Draconess25 Must be a generation thing. I pride my body on lack of scars.

Draconess25's avatar

@chyna A “generation thing”? Most people my age hate scars. It’s just a freak thing!

WolfFang's avatar

Really now? People I know think scars are cool, like some sort of tatoo almost haha

Draconess25's avatar

@WolfFang I’m guessing you’re my age then?

WolfFang's avatar

@Draconess25 not exactly, you got about 3 yrs on me, but I associate with people your age though, they pretty much regard it that way

casheroo's avatar

I don’t think it’s odd. I probably could if I didn’t have two kids. After my first..I stopped fitting into clothes from high school. But the newfound hips are lovely.

Draconess25's avatar

@WolfFang Then maybe it is a generational thing. But where I live, I’m seen as the town freak.

rangerr's avatar

I’m 18, and I’m very willing to show off my scars..

bob_'s avatar

@rangerr Well, you can always post pics…

Draconess25's avatar

@rangerr I thought you were older than me, too. I suck at age-guessing!

bob_'s avatar

@rangerr Ouch :/ Horse related?

WolfFang's avatar

@rangerr dang! that looks like it was painful

aprilsimnel's avatar

I got a pair of shoes I’ve been able to wear since I was 15 (years ago), and I still have those. Still wear ‘em, too. Boat shoes will never go out of style.

I wish I had a few of my T-shirts from back in the day to wear, but I’ve got these dratted boobs, so it’d be impossible to wear them even if I had them.

rangerr's avatar

@bob_ Hoof to the eye.

bob_'s avatar

@rangerr :/ Hope it’s all fine now?

Fernspider's avatar

Scars? What kind of scars? Are scars trendy or do they need to be specific designs? Sorry, I am starting to feel old, I have never heard of this.

Draconess25's avatar

@Rachienz No, I just see scars as….trophies, or something like that.
@rangerr Holy hell! You look like my cousin!

asmonet's avatar

@rangerr: For the record, I’ve seen your boobs in a bikini – you sure as shit have more than enough.
