Where can I find the best Chinese Food in San Francisco?

Asked by SamIAm (8703points) May 8th, 2010

I know this seems silly – SF has the best Chinese food, right? Well, I haven’t found very good food here and am looking to either order in, or take out tonight and want to know what your favorite, inexpensive Chinese place in the Downtown/Chinatown area is?

Any suggestions would be great.

My favorite chinese restaurant in the Bay Area is in Oakland. So is the second best.
The Hunan Yuan at Redwood Road and Mountain Blvd in the Oakland hills rocks!
The second best is in Oakland’s chinatown. The Joy Luck . Terrific food.
In the City, try the J&A , but understand it is in the Mission, nearly in Daly City.

According to Yelp{dot}com, Oriental Pearl is the highest rated Chinese restaurant in Chinatown that meets your requirements. Here’s a list of highly rated Chinese restaurants that have take-out and are inexpensive.

You can’t ALWAYS go by Yelp, which is why I was asking here… Thank you for the recommendations. I ended up taking out from Sam’s on Polk and despite the not so great Yelp reviews, the food was DELICIOUS!!!!

@Samantha_Rae – I agree with your opinion about Yelp reviews. I wonder if there’s another review site local to San Francisco? In Chicago, we have the Hungry Hound and Check, Please!. I’ve also found Diners, Drive-ins and Dives helpful, too. I’ve checked out two restaurants because of Tripple D! Flavor Town USA has a searchable map of restaurants featured on Tripple D, maybe you could search by your area.

I hope you took the time to report your opinion of Sam’s on Yelp! It’s important!

House of Nan King, obvi. Just go with a group of friends and let the waitstaff choose the food for you.

Chef Jie is right next to Nan King, the food is just as good, and there is no crowd.
