How hard was the AP World History exam?

Asked by Finley (833points) May 9th, 2010

If you’ve taken it, how hard was it for you to get a 5? What do you suggest that I do to prepare for it? What was the score for the majority of your class? Mainly, how hard was the multiple choice and when did you take it?

Not hard at all. World History is more like Humanities. I didn’t even do that well in the class, but I found the test to be relatively easy and i got a 5

I took it over 10 years ago but I remember being a huge history buff for most of my life so I found it rather simple. I saw my text as more of a story book than a school book and loved reading it over and over.

It might have to do with our teacher who not only got us involved in the class, but also wore period costumes and took us on cultural outings related to the subject. We would watch movies and documentaries. I loved it.

P.S. easiest 5 out of all my AP classes.

I remember taking it last year. I thought it wasn’t hard since the writing prompts were what we studied in class. But the multiple choice were average, they weren’t difficult and they weren’t easy. If you’re undecided SKIP the question. I’d suggest you study the major topics like the renaissance era, Black Death, the Atlantic trade, etc. Good luck! (:

I have been out of school for well over a half century, but I can assure you that if you have completed the assigned class and home work, you will succeed.

It was many years ago, but it was the easiest of all the AP tests I took. I didn’t study at all and got a 4, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get a 5 if you put some effort into it.

@YARNLADY: That’s actually not always how it works with AP Exams.

@Finley: That was the first AP test I took, and went on to do about 10 others. My best advice is get one of the practice books from the bookstore and go through the whole thing. I don’t remember what brand I had. They’re kind of expensive, but totally worth it. The format of the test is not the same as many people’s class experience. And in my class we didn’t even finish our textbook. I spent about a month reviewing all the info in the book and then taking the practice tests, and I got a 5.

@La_chica_gomela If A P means Advanced Placement – than I don’t understand what you are getting at, of course studying and completing all the assignments helps

@YARNLADY you are totally, completely, and utterly unhelpful.

@La_chica_gomela .. I bought the 2010 AP World History princeton review book and basically its everything we covered our whole year put into 200 pages of plain and simple statements. I’m going to finish the book tonight, after reading/highlighting it for the past 2.5 weeks. But, the practice exams in the back are killer, I’ve asked people from my school and they said the Multiple Choice was wayyy easier, despite I’m terrified.

@Finley OK – well Good Luck

La_chica_gomela's avatar

@Finley: Don’t be terrified. For me the hardest part was sitting there for that long. It’s easy to get really burned out when you’re stuck in a room for that long, etc. I’m sure you already know about that. That part’s no different from the SAT or any other test. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. You’ll be fine. It sounds like you’re staying right on track.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

@YARNLADY: It’s a standardized test. Just because you complete the work your own teacher assigns you doesn’t mean it necessarily bears any relation to what you’ll encounter on the test. One tip for YOU: If you’re not even 100% sure what the acronyms in a question stand for, you’re probably not in a position to answer it.
Also: *then, not than.

@La_chica_gomela it was intended to be more of a pep-talk, but the I guess ‘fail’ works here

@La_chica_gomela IM DONNNE. I finished today at 12. The DBQ was okay, but I rocked it out. It was just difficult because of the 10 documents about 6 of them were statistics so it made it more difficult to do POV. The CCOT was religion in Latin America, that one was okay but not great and then the last one was CC essay and it was Han China vs. Imperial Rome and I rocked that one out too. The MC was a little hard but okay, I say I missed 20–25 of 70 which isn’t toooo bad.

thank you for your help @cyndihugs @clioi @La_chica_gomela
