What do the letters "C" and "A" mean on the hockey jersey of some players?

Noticed during Olympics and now during the NHL playoffs that a few players have letters on the left upper front of jersey. Why?

C = Captain.
A = Assistant (or Alternate) Captain

Captains are technically the only ones allowed to argue calmly discuss penalties with the officials. If the captain is not on the ice, one of the alternates talks to the officials instead.

C- Captain
A- Assistant/Alternate Captain
Captains and A.C dont just deal with the refs they have multiple things that are their responsibility. For instance addressing the team in the locker room planning trips and team building Exercises
