If You Like TV Dinners, Which Ones Are Your Favorites?

Asked by Aster (20023points) May 13th, 2010

I know it’s a gross concept to many but I like them. Especially the frozen egg rolls w/sweet n sour sauce. I think of them as a little deli in a box. If you agree, which ones do you like and do you Love any of them?

Oh man I fucking love TV dinners. They’re quite convenient when you come back from work or school and don’t wanna cook anything. Hell even if I have money I sometimes take TV dinners over takeout.

I like the Swanson Dinner ones, especially the meatloaf. But those are like, fucking high class man, I’m poor, so I usually go for no name brand Norwegian meatballs with pasta, or chicken nuggets with corn, mashed potatoes and BBQ sauce. It all tastes awesome.
(Except the damn potatoes are always so frozen that they take twice as long as everything else to heat up.

Not a big fan of the Michelina’s though, even though where I live those are in the same price range as Swanson’s.

But yeah, I’m totally The TV Dinner Lady lulz phear meh.

I also like instant egg rolls like you mentioned, except they’re always so small and I end up scarfing down like two boxes haha.

Hey, I’m a big fan of frozen entrees (as I prefer to call them). I used to get them every now and then growing up. My favorites are anything Marie Callender’s or Healthy Choice. Marie Callender’s Swedish meatballs and their version of sweet and sour chicken were my two favorites. Marie Callender’s is high quality; usually more expensive than the other brands, but worth it. For Healthy Choice I like all the Asian-themed ones and this one called “Country Breaded Chicken” that may have been discontinued; I’m not exactly sure.

I also really like essentially all the ones by Amy’s. Amy’s is a vegan and vegetarian brand (mostly vegan) and all of it is organic. Amy’s products are always in the “health foods” aisle of the grocery store. Amy’s entrees are excellent. :)

I am personally not at fan, not at all. But my husband absolutely LOVES the turkey ones. Like turkey, mashed potatoes, and corn. In fact, he won’t eat turkey any other way.

@TheOnlyNeffie He loves tv turkey dinners but refuses to eat a freshly baked, stuffed turkey? What?? LOL Well, Happy Thanksgiving to you!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Aster it’s true. Crazy, but true. lol.

@TheOnlyNeffie Did you ask him why? Did he have a horrid experience once with a Butterball? (turkey, that is). Give me the gravy, dressing and the Pepperidge Farm rolls and I’m good. mmmm..(salivates)

I’ve asked him.. he really doesn’t have an answer. He is just really finicky. Personally, I wouldn’t be at all interested in a microwavable turkey meal… but I definitely put away my fair share at Thanksgiving. I’m with you on that one. And suddenly I’m craving turkey….

I don’t like them, but I kept some of the Healthy Choice dinners around when I was in school. They were tolerable in a pinch.

I cook once a week and make up a bunch of my own. Then I can just heat and eat when I am in a hurry. I can control portions and dietary concerns better when I do it this way.

It’s not a dinner, per se, but I like the Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg, and Gravy Breakfast Bowl.
Also, there’s a brand called El Charrito that serve up Mexican entrees, are inexpensive, and have hot sauce that is actually spicy.

I like Boston Market’s mac and cheese, Lean Cuisine used to make a chicken florentine that I liked… not sure if they still do. Weight Watchers Smart Ones had a rigatoni, chicken, and broccoli dinner I liked a whole lot. Hmm.. Stouffer’s makes a pretty good mac and cheese too. And I’m not sure if this counts, but I love Bertoli’s chicken & farafalle florentine “meal for two” frozen bag meal thingiemabobber. lol

Michelina’s Tortellini Alfredo is a favorite. All the Michelina’s are pretty good, super cheap and an easy way to monitor the calorie intake.
