How often do you welcome new jellies when you see them join?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) May 17th, 2010

When you notice a new user has joined the collective do you greet them or assume someone else has done it? When you joined did anyone think to greet you and will you share who that kind user was?

I don’t say anything. But I am a lurve machine with new people. The first hit is free.

I try to send them a comment welcoming them to fluther when I see someone new join the collective. No one sent me a comment welcoming me to fluther right away, but I did get a few “welcome to fluther” after contributing for a week. The first comment I got welcoming me was from jonsblond.

Oh, I forgot to mention, it was Astrochuck who greeted me. :-)

If I notice a newcomer in a thread (and they’re not a troll or something), I always welcome them in the thread. Sometimes via PM, too, if I happen to notice that they’re awesome! Note: Since I’m not as active in the questions as I am behind the scenes these days, I often don’t recognize the awesomeness until it’s too late to ‘welcome’. :(

I always greet everyone with less than 50 lurve. I’m also promiscuous with lurve for newbies.

If I see one who is having a little trouble doing things right, I’ll drop them a PM and add them.

Any time I notice them when answering a question.

I try to, but filmfann usually beats me to it. He would make a great Walmart greeter. ;)

I usually send a pm to someone new if I feel they are being treated a bit unfairly (that’s if they are not a troll, they just don’t know the ways of fluther yet).

I believe it was augustlan and jca that were the first to welcome me. They were very kind to me.

@Seaofclouds :D

If I’m answering a question from a Flutherite and I see that their lurve score is low, less than 100 for example, I surmise that they are new to the collective and I try to welcome each time I encounter them for the first time.

@Bluefreedom I went to welcome someone this morning that had less than 100 lurve. When I clicked on their profile I noticed they have been here longer than me! I’m glad I checked. :)

@jonsblond. I wonder if I’ve ever encountered that in the past. Maybe I should start checking too. =)

I only do it on Chat, if I check and notice that the person has less than 30 lurve. I still don’t feel like I’ve been here long enough to be welcoming people though.

I can’t remember if anyone greeted me when I joined, I don’t think they did, but I tend to make a habit of turning up and pretending I’ve been at the party for ages.

I rarely tell them welcome to Fluther and only when the answer is good. You know’s who’s good at this though? Filmfann.

@iphigeneia Welcome to the collective! Better late, than never. :)
