Recommendations on a Point of Sale system that integrates with Quickbooks for Mac?

Asked by madrone (34points) May 17th, 2010

I run a mid-size retail store that uses Quickbooks for Mac 2010. Does anyone out there use a Point of Sale software (third party-Quickbooks doesn’t make POS for Mac) that they import into their Quickbooks for mac? I have read about Lightspeed and Checkout but can’t find many helpful online reviews. Thought I’d ask the collective! Thanks

Have a look at www.myob.com or www.checkoutapp.com. Have seen the myob kit for windows and it comes pretty well recommended.

I’d be VERY cautious with Quickbooks for Mac. Many people have lots of problems with it (we’ve had entries randomly vanish for example). I hope everything stays fine for you guys, but I just wanted you to be aware of some of the potential pitfalls before investing too much in a quickbooks-centric solution.

I haven’t used Checkout, but I know the company that makes it—Sofa have a pretty stellar reputation in the Mac Programming community for producing really great software. I use their Versions program which is fantastic and won an Apple Design Award, so I think it’s worth “checking them out” if their solution fits your needs.
