Is it healthy to mix bikram yoga, with swimming and other exercises?

Asked by JonnyCeltics (2721points) May 17th, 2010

I am currently getting into Bikram yoga, little by little. I am also an avid swimmer, and I miss it. Could I mix both, and add basic exercises like push-ups and sit-ups?

How could it hurt?

@jaytkay my question exactly…

Just so you don’t try to do both at once. However, I found that swimming laps, all that back-and-forth, was similiar to moving meditation. Back and forth, back and forth, breathing in and out….

Why would there be a conflict?

I do it and zumba and lift weights and run… So I think you’ll be ok. :) It’s amazing isn’t it?!?! I’m addicted to yoga.

It’s actually good to switch up routines.

Sounds perfect, actually. I do Bikram 3x a week, visit the pool to swim once a week, and dance tango for about 4 hours once a week. Bikram complements and enhances any good cardio workout you’re doing outside it.

Your last name attracted my attention. back in the 60s, i had a rock and roll band name The Celtics in Nashville, Tn. we were very popular and played at a lot of fraternities in the Nashville area. just thought you would like to know. john

I swim competetively on a masters team. Swim practice 3–4 times a week, and Bikram 3 times a week. They complement each other well.
