How much of your life do you dedicate to exercise?

Asked by meagan (4670points) May 18th, 2010

I visit the gym around four days a week. Now thats its warmer outside, I’d like to hear what everyone else does to keep in shape, too.

Do most of you exercise regularly? Or can you not be bothered with a little thing like physical fitness?

I regularly walk to the kitchen and back to get beer.

I don’t drive so I walk about 60 minutes everyday. And I bike a lot. I have a membership at the community center that has a pool and weight room but I barely ever use it.

First, I am in great shape, perfect BMI, dead center of the band for my height. Honest.
I don’t “devote” time to exercise at all. I exercise by doing something physical: cutting trees, splitting wood, walking as much as possible in the office, getting sweaty with my SO as often as possible.
I eat anything I want but limit the quantity. If I decide I will have a big piece of chocolate cake for breakfast that is fine. But I will not have anything else for breakfast. I used up my 700–800 calorie breakfast budget. l skips meals if I know I have a big one planned. For example if I go to some All-you-can-shove-in-the-pie-hole buffet I will indulge but will skip all other meals except for a couple of crackers.that day.
I do not go to a gym, I move and regulate food intake on my own.

i dont drive anymore and it’s doing wonders for me. i love that anywhere i go now includes a bike ride. it’s splendid. plus, now it’s nice out, and since the mountains are literally a mile away, i can bike to the trail heads and do a nice couple mile hike, right in my back yard practically. i like exercise that is also fun and productive, like hiking. i’m not so big on just running. i find it dull and repetitive.

I lift weights 6 days per week and do about an hour of aerobic exerise daily-walk,bike or now that the weather is warming up,swim.I like to mix that up a bit.
I like it very much and don’t like to miss it :)

At my age the “use it or lose it” becomes a greater reality so I run every other day and I do the usual pushup, situp and chinups almost everyday. I love to do yoga poses everyday to keep the kinks out. I am yogaing this or that throughout the day. No need for anything more!

I don’t need to go to a gym, as my job (farmer) is plenty of physical exercise. I do run about 40 miles a week thoogh, mostly to keep depression at bay.

60 minutes four times a week, plus an active life-style.

Karate for an hour and a half 2x a week, 5K walking or running 2–3 times a week. It’s about 50 minutes each time. I’m getting my bike fixed soon, so I can use it more often, at least in Brooklyn (I will never ride my bike in Manhattan again. It’s just not safe, IMO).

I would like to try circuit training. These last 20 lbs. have been stubborn.

I try to run every day with at least one rest day built in; more if something hurts.

My daily routes right now are either 4 or 4.7 miles. Long runs on the weekends have ranged from 5 to 7.5; this weekend I’m shooting for 9.

Between running and stretching that’s about an hour a day and closer to two hours for long runs.

And I bike to/from work, but it’s only 10–15 minutes, including stoplights.

Here’s the thing, I’m thin even though I eat whatever I want, so I’m not awfully motivated to exercise. I’m blessed with a crazy metabolism that just burns extra calories into energy. My weight has been fairly constant my entire life.

That being said, I do feel guilty for not exercising from time to time. When I was a kid, I did dance and gymnastics to keep active. My friends and I erratically attended kickboxing classes for a few months. At college, I attended a weight lifting class regularly once a week, and walking around campus gives me a lot of exercise. Second semester, I did kickboxing instead. That faded out though once my workload increased and I didn’t have time to go to those classes.
I own a Wii fit at home, so I’m hoping that over this summer break I’ll use that more. I wouldn’t mind getting a bit more toned. I also will be working at a summer camp, and that keeps me plenty active.

With the way the weather is out here, I find myself running to the basement more and more. stupid tornado’s, but I think it’s because I’ve been hanging out in eastern Co.
