I need an example of a tornado that had an effect on the community, earth, and economy. Can someone give me some suggestions for a famous devastating tornado? Thanks :)

Ah, the tri-state tornado. So large is was said to resemble a boiling mass of clouds at ground level. The roar it produced was so loud that it made people become disoriented and vomit.

I’d also recommend checking out the Super Outbreak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Outbreak) A devastating outbreak of tornadoes on april 3–4 of 1974. At one point during this outbreak, there were more F5 tornadoes in a day than there were in any other year.

There’s also the Daultipur-Salturia tornado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daultipur-Salturia_Tornado) which is the deadliest single tornado in the history of the world.

The only one I can think of is the tri-state tornado… and of course the many Xenia tornadoes, but then, I am from Ohio, so we always talk about the Xenia tornadoes. Are you thinking that we name the tornadoes like we name the hurricanes? I don’t believe that’s the case. Usually people refer to the tornado by the area it hits, right?

@Brian1946 Haha, awesome. Isn’t that one of the Von Erichs?

Tornadoes don’t have names like hurricanes do, they are identified by the year/location they occur. Look at the history on the NESEC site.

I suggest you do a search for ‘devastating tornadoes’ for more listings.

Tornadoes aren’t named, but are described by the areas they hit. But when you hear one referred to as an F5, you know it will be devastating.
