Why do Ustream and Livestream run my computer so hard?

Asked by Zone36 (416points) May 23rd, 2010

I don’t understand what makes them such system hogs.

I can watch Youtube videos in HD with no problems.

I can watch HD movies with no problems.

But trying to watch a stream gets my computer burning and sometimes crashes it from overheating.

It doesn’t make any sense. A stream is downloading and watching video at the same time. And the video quality isn’t even that good. What else is happening that makes my computer go overtime?

Are you using the HTML5 version of youtube, per chance? It sounds like a primarily flash issue with the other sites.

No idea.

But even opening them in Chrome still runs heavy.

@Zone36 Check here. The computer running hot, crashing, etc, though sounds a lot like the common issues with Flash, which wouldn’t affect you if you’re watching an HD movie or in the HTML5 beta for Youtube.

I’m pretty sure I’m not doing that beta, I didn’t even know about it until you told me.

But that sucks, it doesn’t look like there’s anything I can do about it.
