Where do long hairs that appear overnight come from?

Asked by majorrich (14741points) May 25th, 2010

Sunday my wife pulled a hair out of my ear (Yes I am approaching 50) that was nearly an inch long. This afternoon, I thought some dust had gotten behind my glasses. It turned out to be a hair easily an inch or more that was attached to my eyelid! Like in the middle where hair isn’t supposed to be. Where do these hairs come from and how do they grow so fast?

Old and confused hair folicles. I have them too. Stupid things. Growing where they shouodn’t, refusing to grow where they should, and growing at rates that don’t even resemble normal.

I am only 35 and I have eyebrow hairs that run almost 3” long! They come in out of nowhere. This is a mystery indeed.

I have had that happen, on my areola mammae, but it never occurred to me to wonder how or why. Good question.

Do you suppose a follicle could go out of control and that’s what happens. Everyone I’ve talked to has these rogue hairs. Sort of similar to the way a cell that becomes cancerous doesn’t stop growing.

I had one starting at 20; a white hair grew under my chin. It was baby fine and usually got to around 2”. I’d pluck it, then promptly forget the rogue follicle was there for three or four months until I felt the hair again.

It’s stopped coming in for well over a year now, which is strange. I suppose I’ll have to deal with other random hair sprites in the years to come. :/

I remember pulling one from the end of my little Brother’s finger once, We were little shavers, maybe 12 or so. It was pretty creepy. And we were in church!

I had one on my shoulder when I was 18. It was white and fine and easily two inches long.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I have no wild hair stories… little body hair, hope it stays that way! lol

I think it’s great to be on top of an impeccable grooming routine….ear hairs….ewwwwwwwww! hahahahaha

Thank God women usually don’t get the same wild hairs that men do!

Note to middle aged dudes:

Be extra alert for the unibrow scene as you advance in your ‘growth’ to ancient old age. AND….keep an eye out for that crazy nose hair, maybe just light a match under each nostril every morning! lolololol

Thanks for the bedtime laugh! ;-)
