Can I hack a dead cell phone by putting special programs on it's Micro SD card?

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) June 3rd, 2010

I can get an old cell phone, and I have a 4 gig Micro SD card. Is there some neat stuff I can make it do, with programs/ hacks that are put on the SD card?

you can put DSL on an SD card, just look it up..all you need is 35mb of free space format the card using fat32. Not sure it would run through a cell phone but maybe, you could try it. DSL is cool though and super fast.

If @earthduzt means “Damn Small Linux” then no, it could not possibly work on a cell phone – they don’t have the same type of CPU (or pretty much anything else) as a PC.

As for any other hacks, it would depend on what type of phone it is: if it’s an N900 then it can be made to boot very specific builds of Linux from the card, and I don’t know but maybe some of the Android phones can too.

Otherwise, chances are very slim.

Oh, looks like the iPhone can also be hacked. (2g and 3g only for now, not 3gs)

It depends entirely on what phone it is, and what you are intending to do with it.

There are Linux distro’s that you can run on mobile devices, for example UCLinux, or Debian for ARM processors.

Other than that, I don’t know what to suggest to you.

I think it’s a razor.
