How often do you drink alcoholic beverages?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) June 4th, 2010

Never? Daily? How often do you imbibe? What do you like to drink when you do?

I probably drink once a month, often less, sometimes more.. particularly during holiday seasons. So I’d guess an average of 10 times a year. It seems like such a large number when I put it that way! How about you?

I drink daily and only wine. I guess I would be what you call a functioning alcoholic. tehe he he

MissA's avatar

I’ve never been a drinker…but, enjoyed a bit of auslese once in a while. Just don’t drink anymore. But, I can appreciate a good liquor for what it is.

DrBill's avatar

1 glass of wine a day, only because The Dr says I should, otherwise it would be none.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I think I could appreciate a glass of wine daily, but alcoholism runs in my family.. so I wouldn’t trust myself to drink that frequently. Seems like asking for trouble for someone in my situation. Otherwise, I hear it’s good for you.

I drink about twice a week on average. I usually drink a few pints of Guinness, by a few I mean anywhere from 2 to 12 depending on the situation, or a couple pitchers of Blue Moon if I’m out with my roommates, and/or a little Jameson or other whiskey or scotch. Occasionally I’ll have a glass or two of wine. I prefer Toasted Head merlot if I’m drinking wine.

Vunessuh's avatar

Lately, only 1–2 times a month.
For years though I rarely drank because I have such a weak stomach.
I don’t drink wine or beer – usually just hard liquor, but if I don’t want to get sick I have to stick to one drink for the entire night.
And if I do get sick, it discourages me from drinking for months, but I guess that’s not such a bad thing.

cookieman's avatar

The equivalent of about half a beer, six times a year.

I am, what Latin scholars refer to as litus weightus.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@cprevite haha, love it.

I tend to drink way way too much when I do drink, however rare the occasion may be.

@Vunessuh I actually know other people who feel the same way. One night turns them off to drinking for a long time, and I can see why that makes sense.

warwickmcghee's avatar

I drink Fridays and Saturdays each week. A minimum of a dozen full strength beers (5%, 375ml bottles) and three or so shots of anything. Sometimes a couple cheap bottles of red wine or port will do the trick instead of beers.
I drink to get as drunk as i can.

We’ve been enjoying “sangria” the past few weeks. Wine, Vodka, Lemonade, and a sugar syrup. I’m not nearly as interested in alcohol as I used to be though.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Facade I’ve never had it, but it sounds tasty.

jazmina88's avatar

I dont drink much, not even New Years, there is champagne in my fridge to prove it. I did try some absinthe last fall.

@facade try a bit of fruit in the sangria, apples, peach, pear, whatever…..

laureth's avatar

I have one to three drinks per week or so. It just depends on the week. Mr. Laureth is a homebrewer, though, so there’s always mead and beer around.

hug_of_war's avatar

Not at all.

shego's avatar

I have a drink or two every two to three months. There are a lot of alcoholics in my family so I would rather be safe than sorry. But when I do drink I have a long island ice tea, or a margarita.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@shego this question was actually inspired by my sudden craving for a good margarita.

Silhouette's avatar

I had a Bloody Mary a few years ago, I used to drink more, but suddenly I just didn’t like it.

shego's avatar

Well I guess that means we’re special :) ( not in a weird way) because I would love one now and I missed happy hour at my favorite bar :(

Pandora's avatar

Depends. Wine maybe a glass twice a month. Anything else, the average is probably like 2 to 6 times in a year.
Not a big drinker. I like wine but it makes me sleepy. The rest just give me an upset stomach though the night. (Acid reflux isn’t kind.)

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Pandora I can relate to that. I do like wine, my father always made wine when I was growing up, so I developed a fondness for it. But I always prefer red wines, and they give me a terrible headache.
@shego I also order long islands if I actually go out to the bar with my girlfriends (which is extremely rare), but I imagine the two of us would be a riot at a bar together, judging by our drinking styles. Special, indeed. lol.

aprilsimnel's avatar

~6–8 times a month. A couple of Magners on ice or a beer with the girls on a Friday or Saturday, and maybe a glass of wine or two if I go out to dinner.

Blackberry's avatar

Every Friday and a few times during the week but that is just a few beers or a few glasses of wine.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

Daily. Single-malt Scotch, usually Glenfiddich. Bass IPA as a chaser. I now drink only at home and alone. No more bars or clubs for me.

DominicX's avatar

This year it’s been a few times a month, rarely more than that. I’ve been partying quite a bit this year. :)

And yes, chances are if I’m drinking, I’m going to be getting drunk…

Pandora's avatar

@TheOnlyNeffie Ohh. A nice rich port wine with a chocolate dessert and I’m in heaven. Only then its straight to bed. Sad really. :(

JLeslie's avatar

I have a few sips a year; usually trying someone elses drink. Once every 4 or 5 years maybe I actually consume a full ounce or two of hard alcohol in one sitting.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

I don’t drink. Haven’t for years. When I was younger, I drank a lot and got over it quickly.

Seek's avatar

I drink socially, and only at home (as I’m always the designated driver. Someday someone needs to volunteer, so I can drink something I didn’t put together myself…)

I like wine, and dark beers (Guinness FTW!), Ale on Lees (Unibroue!), Jameson in my tea and coffee, Bailey’s and coffee with whipped cream, and I lurve a good dirty martini. Bombay Sapphire, dry vermouth, extra olives. ^_^

perspicacious's avatar

About every ten years.

cyn's avatar

Wine or tequila. Twice a month.

filmfann's avatar

1 glass of wine, or a beer with dinner.

Facade's avatar

@jazmina88 We used to put fruit in it, but we found out that it tasted just as good without it, so we ditched the fruit lol

faye's avatar

I’m trying so hard to lose weight that drinking is rare now but I like wine and beer. As a matter of fact I have some Malibu in the cupboard- I’m going to have some. Good timing- bedtime drink.

tinyfaery's avatar

I have a drink about 5 times a year and it’s always a Margarita.

OpryLeigh's avatar

Once in a while I’ll enjoy a cider or something but it really is once in a while and usually only the one.

downtide's avatar

On average about twice a week, and usually beer. I will sometimes have wine with a meal and I occasionally enjoy a good single-malt Scotch.

pearls's avatar

I drink one glass of wine each night. Helps me relax.

meagan's avatar

Very rarely. But thats probably because I don’t keep the kind of wine I like in the house ;P

Blondesjon's avatar

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

shego's avatar

@TheOnlyNeffie your inspiration had me, I just got back from having my ultimate margarita! Can you say yummy?

noodlehead710's avatar

Usually 3–5 times a week, I’ll have a beer with dinner. I’ve got a wall of bottles up above my shelves in the kitchen, one for each new beer I try. This keeps me from coming back to the easy picks over and over, I like to explore many new options.

I’ll usually have a bottle of some type (bourbon, rum, or tequila—in decreasing frequency) of liquor around that I also put to use a few times a week. For some reason I’ve always liked sipping straight liquor instead of actually mixing any drinks.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@shego I am so jealous! My hubby and I went out for dinner tonight, and I was so tempted to get one.. but I had a terrible headache and decided against it. :P Glad you enjoyed yours though!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

My partner is an alcoholic so the fun of drinking has been greatly dimmished for me since I’ve had more than enough of the weirdness and arguing that’s gone with it. I drink rarely now and find I can enjoy it with friends but hardly at all with my partner because I just get focused on how much and how often and what is possible, blah blah.

ItsAHabit's avatar

I have a drink every day. Drinking a daily glass or two of beer, wine or liquor is associated with better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining from alcohol or abusing it.
